Kolkata, Aug 21: IIT Kharagpur is celebrating its 75th anniversary with a week-long Platinum Jubilee programme focused on its achievements, innovation and future plans.

The celebrations include a range of activities such as a campus Fun Run, technical discussions, debates, speeches and cultural programmes.

One of the key discussions focused on “Next Gen IITians for Viksit Bharat”, highlighting the role of young IITians in India’s future development. A Foundation Day debate on “Faculty vs Students” also formed part of the celebrations.

The programme brought together students, faculty, alumni and distinguished guests to discuss the institute’s journey and its future role in education, research and technology.

Another important discussion focused on “Beyond the IITs We Know: Building the IITs that the Nation and the World Will Need”. The session explored how IITs can strengthen research, mentorship and innovation to meet changing national and global needs.

The celebrations were attended by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan, West Bengal Minister Kalyan Chakraborty and NITI Aayog member Gobardhan Das, among others. IIT Kharagpur Director Suman Chakraborty also addressed the gathering.

The Platinum Jubilee programme also included new institutional initiatives, awards and recognitions for contributions to the institute and society.

The celebrations will continue with technology demonstrations, deep-tech showcases, a Hackathon and Innovation Challenge, along with interactions with venture capitalists and startup founders.

The 75th anniversary celebrations aim to honour IIT Kharagpur’s legacy while encouraging new ideas and innovations for the future.
