Mumbai, Sep 21: Ganeshotsav is a festival of faith, devotion and celebration, during which thousands of devotees visit Ganesh pandals. In a crowded environment, if a devotee suddenly faces a medical emergency, the first few minutes can be extremely important.
Understanding this need, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road conducted a free Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and basic life-saving training programme for the representatives and team members of Shantinagar Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandal, Mira Road, Yuva Mitra Mandal Bharti park ganesh mandal and may other Ganesh Mandal in Mira Road and Bhayandar
During Ganeshotsav, many devotees observe fasting or remain without food for long hours. This may sometimes lead to weakness, dizziness or fainting. At the same time, many people with diabetes, high blood pressure and heart-related risk factors also participate in the celebrations. In such situations, timely first aid and CPR can be crucial until professional medical help arrives.
Under the guidance of experts from Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, the Ganesh Mandal representatives and volunteers were given practical training on identifying medical emergencies, responding to an unconscious person, performing CPR when required and taking basic life-saving steps until medical assistance is available.
Ganesh Mandal volunteers are often among the first people to reach a devotee in case of an emergency. Equipping them with basic life-saving skills can therefore help them respond quickly and appropriately during critical situations.
Speaking about the initiative, the hospital team said,
“Every devotee who comes for Ganpati darshan should be able to return home safely. If we can help save an unknown person’s life during an emergency, it is one of the most meaningful forms of service during Ganeshotsav.”
The initiative is aimed at creating greater awareness about emergency healthcare and encouraging community volunteers to learn basic life-saving skills.
Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road has also encouraged other Ganesh Mandals in the Mira-Bhayandar area to come forward and participate in similar CPR and life-saving training programmes. Through this initiative, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road aims to promote a safer Ganeshotsav and strengthen emergency preparedness within the local community.
