Chennai, July 28: ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems India Limited (ZF CVCS India) has secured business nominations from three leading Indian commercial vehicle OEMs for its ESCsmart™ Electronic Stability Control (ESC) solution. The multi-year programs cover truck platforms across both 24V and 12V architectures and support upcoming vehicle programs designed to meet India’s new ESC safety regulations. Production is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2027, with all systems to be locally assembled and supplied from ZF CVCS India’s manufacturing facilities in India.
The announcement comes ahead of the implementation of India‘s AIS regulations, which will make Electronic Stability Control (ESC) mandatory for trucks from October 1, 2027. As vehicle manufacturers prepare next-generation platforms to meet the new requirements, demand for proven stability-control technologies is increasing rapidly and these nominations reflect the growing adoption in the Indian market.
Globally, ESC is widely recognized as one of the most effective active safety technologies for reducing loss-of-control and rollover-related crashes. Several mature commercial vehicle markets already mandate ESC, making this implementation in India a significant step towards aligning with global safety standards. The move is expected to contribute to safer roads, improved vehicle stability and more secure freight transportation.
Designed specifically for commercial vehicles, ESCsmartTM helps drivers maintain vehicle stability during demanding driving conditions. The system automatically intervenes when vehicle stability approaches a critical threshold, helping reduce the risk of rollover, skidding and jack-knifing in truck-trailer combinations. Proven in Indian operating conditions, ESCsmartTM is already deployed across over 60,000 vehicles and is backed by ZF‘s 20+ years of ESC expertise and worldwide deliveries of more than 3 million systems.
Paramjit Singh Chadha, Managing Director, ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems India Ltd said: “As the Indian commercial vehicle industry prepares for the next phase of safety regulations, vehicle stability technologies are evolving from being a differentiator to becoming a fundamental requirement. These business nominations reflect the growing momentum towards advanced active safety systems across the market. With a proven ESC platform, dedicated validation capabilities at our ESC test track, and strong local engineering and manufacturing expertise, ZF CVCS India is ready to support OEMs in meeting the upcoming safety requirements with scalable, India-ready solutions.”
Akash Passey, Non-Executive Chairman, ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems India Ltd and President – ZF Group in India added: “We are proud of the confidence our customers have placed in ZF CVCS India and the partnerships we have built. As India enters a defining phase in commercial vehicle safety, OEMs are increasingly prioritizing proven technologies that enhance vehicle stability and deliver meaningful safety outcomes at scale. These nominations reinforce ZF CVCS India‘s leadership in active safety and our readiness to support the industry’s transition through proven technology, local manufacturing, advanced validation capabilities, and ZF‘s global expertise in electronic stability control.”
