New Delhi, Aug 19: India’s BRICS Presidency is giving young people a stronger role in shaping the future of energy, with a growing focus on innovation, clean technology, entrepreneurship and sustainable development.

Young Innovators Take Centre Stage in BRICS Energy Cooperation

The 8th BRICS Youth Energy Summit, held virtually on August 17 under the theme “Energy for All,” brought young professionals, researchers and innovators into discussions on some of the most important energy challenges facing BRICS countries.

The youth-focused dialogue looked at ways to improve energy access while supporting a cleaner and more reliable energy system. Discussions covered renewable energy, energy security, digital technologies, smart grids and emerging solutions for efficient power management.

For young people, the changing energy landscape is creating new opportunities. Careers and businesses are emerging in areas such as renewable energy, artificial intelligence, energy storage, climate technology, engineering and digital infrastructure.

India’s approach under its 2026 BRICS Presidency places ‘Yuva Shakti’ at the heart of its youth agenda. The idea recognises young people as active contributors to economic growth and innovation rather than simply future participants.

The upcoming BRICS Youth Council Meeting and BRICS Youth Summit in Gandhinagar will provide another opportunity for young leaders, entrepreneurs, researchers and social innovators to connect with their counterparts from BRICS countries.

These platforms can help young participants exchange practical ideas, develop international networks and explore partnerships in areas that directly affect the future of energy and employment.

The emphasis on youth also reflects the changing nature of the global energy sector. As countries invest more heavily in clean power and digital technologies, they will need a skilled generation capable of developing new solutions and taking them from research laboratories to communities and businesses.

Greater youth participation could also help make the energy transition more inclusive. Young entrepreneurs can develop affordable solutions for underserved communities, while researchers can contribute new technologies for cleaner and more efficient energy use.

India’s BRICS Presidency is therefore creating a wider space for young people to participate in international cooperation. By connecting youth, technology and sustainable energy, the initiative aims to encourage a generation capable of contributing to stronger economies and a greener future.
