Sandwizzaa Celebrates 40 Years of Legacy & Motherhood with UNIMO Through a Heartfelt Mother’s Day Gathering

Mumbai, May  11: For nearly four decades, Sandwizzaa has been more than just a sandwich brand for Mumbaikars –  it has been a familiar taste of comfort, nostalgia and togetherness. Founded in 1986, the homegrown vegetarian QSR chain, now spread across 20+ outlets in Mumbai, marked its 40-year milestone this Mother’s Day with a celebration rooted not in scale or spectacle, but in the story of the woman whose recipes quietly helped shape the brand’s identity over generations.

In collaboration with UNIMO –  Universe of Moms, Sandwizzaa hosted an intimate sit-down tasting experience that brought together inspiring mom achievers, creators and influencers from the UNIMO community for an afternoon centred around food, conversations and shared stories of motherhood.

At the heart of the gathering was Mrs. Sumitra Sharma, whose iconic chutney recipes continue to remain one of Sandwizzaa’s most loved and defining flavours even today. Guests at the event heard firsthand how the journey began decades ago from a humble pan shop before gradually evolving into one of Mumbai’s most loved vegetarian sandwich chains.

What made the interaction particularly moving was the simplicity and honesty of Mrs. Sharma’s story – one built not through corporate ambition, but through consistency, home-style flavours and the belief that food made with care always creates connection. For many mothers and women entrepreneurs present at the gathering, her journey became one of the most memorable moments of the afternoon.

The celebration then transitioned into a specially curated tasting experience where guests sat down together to enjoy some of Sandwizzaa’s most iconic offerings including the Activity Toast, Veg Cheese Grill and Veggie Mayo sandwiches, paired with cold coffees, iced teas and other beverages. More than a tasting session, the afternoon became a moment of pause,  allowing mothers who spend most of their time caring for others to slow down, connect and celebrate themselves.

Speaking on the occasion, Neha Kare Kanabar, Founder, UNIMO – Universe of Moms, said, “As a hyperlocal community connecting over 7 lakh moms across India, UNIMO has always believed in creating meaningful spaces for women to connect, celebrate, and feel seen. We’re grateful to Sandwizzaa for hosting such a warm and thoughtful Mother’s Day celebration and giving our community an opportunity to come together in such a beautiful way.”

Reflecting on the journey of the brand and the emotional significance of the occasion, Mrs. Sumitra Sharma said, “When we started many years ago, we never imagined that the recipes we made at home with so much love would become a part of so many people’s lives across Mumbai. Every chutney, every sandwich was always made with care and honesty, and that feeling still remains the same today. Seeing so many inspiring mothers and women achievers together today makes me extremely emotional because women have the strength to build families, businesses and communities together. I hope more women continue to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams fearlessly.”

Adding to this, Pankaj Sharma, Director, Sandwizzaa, said, “As Sandwizzaa completes 40 years, this celebration felt deeply personal for us because the brand’s journey has always been connected to family, warmth and my mother’s incredible resilience. While people recognise Sandwizzaa for its sandwiches today, the foundation of the brand was built on the flavours, values and consistency she brought into the business from day one. Collaborating with UNIMO for Mother’s Day felt extremely meaningful because it allowed us to celebrate not just motherhood, but also the unseen strength and contribution of women behind every journey.”

By bringing together community, legacy and food under one roof, the collaboration reflected how Sandwizzaa continues to remain deeply rooted in the emotional fabric of Mumbai – not just as a QSR brand, but as a story passed through generations.
