New Delhi, Sep 1: India and Denmark have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector, with a focus on innovation, technology adoption and intellectual property.
The discussions took place during the fourth meeting of the India-Denmark Joint Working Group in Copenhagen between India’s Ministry of MSME and the Danish Patent and Trademark Office.
The two sides explored ways to help MSMEs become more innovative, improve productivity and make greater use of technology and intellectual property to build competitive businesses.
The Indian delegation also interacted with Danish officials, startups and members of the country’s small-business ecosystem to understand Denmark’s approach to entrepreneurship, innovation and business development. Discussions covered areas such as startup support, mentoring, fundraising, industry-academia partnerships and business clusters.
India shared its experience in developing MSME clusters, while Denmark presented its experience in supporting startups and innovation-driven businesses. The exchange is expected to create opportunities for greater knowledge sharing and cooperation between businesses and institutions in the two countries.
The partnership is important for India’s MSME sector, which remains a major contributor to employment, manufacturing, exports and economic activity. Greater access to technology, innovation and intellectual property support can help smaller businesses improve their products, increase productivity and compete in wider markets.
The cooperation also comes against the backdrop of growing economic ties between India and Denmark. Around 200 Danish companies have invested in India, while Indian companies have established a presence in Denmark. Bilateral trade in goods stood at around $2.05 billion in 2025, while trade in services reached about $4.25 billion.
The latest discussions underline the shared interest of both countries in building stronger and more innovative MSME ecosystems.
Stronger cooperation in technology, intellectual property and entrepreneurship could help businesses in both countries access new ideas, develop innovative products and explore opportunities in international markets.
The initiative is expected to further strengthen India-Denmark economic ties while supporting the growth of technology-driven and innovation-led MSMEs.
