New Delhi, Sep 1: Gold prices are facing renewed volatility as investors closely track the outlook for US interest rates, upcoming employment data and continuing geopolitical tensions.

Domestic gold futures have come under pressure after a sharp correction of more than Rs 6,000 over the past week, following a recent rally that pushed prices to a more than three-month high. International gold prices have also weakened, while silver has moved lower amid broader pressure across precious metals.

The Federal Reserve’s monetary policy outlook remains a major influence on bullion markets. Investors are assessing economic signals and policymakers’ comments for clues about the direction of US interest rates. Changes in rate expectations can have a significant impact on gold because the metal does not generate interest income.

Market participants are also turning their attention to key US labour-market indicators due this week, including job openings, private-sector employment data and the non-farm payrolls report. These figures could provide fresh clues about the strength of the US economy and the likely path of monetary policy.

A stronger-than-expected jobs report could strengthen expectations of tighter monetary conditions and weigh further on gold. On the other hand, signs of a cooling labour market could revive expectations of easier policy and provide some support to bullion.

Geopolitical uncertainty is adding another layer of volatility. Developments in the Middle East and concerns surrounding the Strait of Hormuz have kept investors cautious and contributed to fluctuations in global energy markets.

Higher crude oil prices could also add to inflation concerns. This may influence expectations about central-bank policy and, in turn, affect demand for gold and silver.

Despite the recent decline, gold continues to attract investor interest as a traditional safe-haven asset during periods of economic and geopolitical uncertainty. The metal’s near-term direction is likely to depend on how investors balance interest-rate expectations with concerns over global risks.

For Indian markets, international bullion prices, movements in the rupee against the US dollar and domestic market conditions will remain key factors influencing gold prices.

With several important economic and geopolitical developments in focus, precious metals are likely to remain volatile in the coming sessions. US employment data, Federal Reserve signals, crude oil movements and developments in global hotspots will be closely watched by investors.
