Malaria cases fell by 45 per cent, declining from 1,407 last year to 774 this year. Dengue cases dropped by 39.1 per cent, from 1,293 to 788, while chikungunya infections declined by 48.1 per cent, from 154 to 80. No deaths from malaria or dengue were reported during the period.
The improvement has been supported by wider testing, regular surveillance and intensified mosquito-control activities across the state. More than 1.11 crore blood samples were tested for malaria this year up to Week 33.
Health teams have also stepped up efforts to identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sites. More than 29.63 lakh breeding sites were removed, while fogging was carried out at over 3.21 lakh houses.
During the monsoon, authorities have deployed 497 vector-control teams across districts and municipal areas to strengthen fever surveillance and anti-larval activities. Larvivorous fish have also been introduced at more than 5,000 permanent waterlogging sites to control mosquito larvae naturally.
The state has further strengthened diagnostic facilities, with hospitals affiliated with medical colleges conducting testing for dengue and chikungunya.
With the monsoon creating favourable conditions for mosquito breeding, health officials are continuing surveillance and preventive measures to keep infections under control and protect communities across Gujarat.
