New Delhi, Aug 27: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has invited companies from Japan’s Kansai region to explore investment and business opportunities in India’s expanding semiconductor and electronics ecosystem.
Addressing Japanese business leaders, Goyal highlighted India’s growing demand for semiconductors and the country’s efforts to build a stronger domestic manufacturing base. He said India could offer Japanese companies opportunities across chip manufacturing, design, equipment, materials, packaging and other technology-intensive segments.
India’s semiconductor market is expected to witness substantial growth in the coming years, creating opportunities for global companies looking to expand their production and supply-chain operations.
Goyal emphasised that India’s large talent pool, growing technology sector and expanding manufacturing capabilities can complement Japan’s expertise in advanced technology, engineering and precision manufacturing.
The minister also encouraged Japanese companies to establish manufacturing operations in India and develop partnerships with domestic suppliers. Greater participation from Japanese firms, he said, could strengthen supply chains while creating opportunities for technology transfer and skilled employment.
The government has been taking steps to develop a complete semiconductor ecosystem through financial support, manufacturing incentives and infrastructure development. The initiative is aimed at reducing dependence on overseas supply chains and positioning India as a competitive destination for high-technology manufacturing.
The outreach to Kansai-based companies comes as India and Japan seek to deepen economic cooperation in emerging sectors such as semiconductors, electronics, artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing and clean technologies.
Goyal’s engagement with Japanese businesses is part of India’s broader effort to attract global investment and integrate Indian manufacturing more closely with international supply chains.
The government believes stronger India-Japan cooperation in semiconductors can create long-term opportunities for businesses in both countries while supporting India’s ambition to emerge as a major global technology and manufacturing hub.
