New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the ICC Women’s World Cup-winning team in a joyful, laughter-filled interaction that turned into a heartwarming viral celebration. Filled with cheerful banter and heartfelt moments, the interaction beautifully captured the camaraderie between the Prime Minister and the newly crowned world champions, highlighting a proud and uplifting moment for Indian cricket.

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side, dressed smartly in formal attire with medals shining proudly, received high praise from PM Modi. He admired their strong comeback after early defeats in the league stage. Moreover, he appreciated their courage in overcoming online trolling and emerging stronger with determination and team spirit.

The Indian team reached New Delhi Tuesday amid tight security arrangements. Their arrival followed a glorious 52-run win over South Africa in the final at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. With this victory, India ended its long wait for a major ICC trophy in women’s cricket.

During the interaction, Captain Harmanpreet Kaur recalled meeting PM Narendra Modi in 2017 after a loss. She cheerfully said that this time, meeting him with the trophy felt special. Furthermore, she expressed the team’s wish to meet him more often in the future, marking their continued journey of success.

Vice-Captain Smriti Mandhana spoke warmly about PM Modi’s motivation and support. She said his leadership has inspired the team deeply. Additionally, she mentioned how women are achieving success in all fields today, and she credited the Prime Minister’s initiatives for empowering them.

Player of the Tournament Deepti Sharma also shared her excitement about meeting PM Modi again. She remembered their 2017 conversation, where he encouraged them to keep working hard. Deepti said his words had stayed with her, pushing her to chase her dreams and reach this incredible milestone.

PM Modi talked about Deepti’s Instagram post that read “Jai Shri Ram” and her tattoo of Lord Hanuman. Deepti smiled and said the tattoo gives her strength during tough moments. The Prime Minister praised her devotion and appreciated her confidence and focus on the field.

Harmanpreet asked PM Modi how he always stays calm and focused. He replied that living in the present has become a natural habit. Then, he fondly recalled Harleen Deol’s stunning catch in 2021 against England, which he had once praised online. He also mentioned Harmanpreet keeping the final match ball, calling it a lucky moment.

The Prime Minister also discussed Amanjot Kaur’s famous juggling catch in the tournament. Amanjot laughed, saying it was one fumble she enjoyed. PM Modi joked that while catching the ball, players look at it, but after catching, they must see the trophy. His witty remarks brought laughter to the entire room.

Fast bowler Kranti Gaud told PM Modi that her brother is his huge fan. Instantly, he invited the family to visit him sometime. Then, PM Modi encouraged the team to promote the Fit India movement among young girls. He said that fitness builds strength, confidence, and discipline.

He also emphasized tackling the rising issue of obesity and urged them to inspire school students. Injured player Pratika Rawal, who missed the knockouts due to an ankle injury, also joined the celebration in a wheelchair, receiving warm applause from the team and PM Modi.
