Kolkata, Aug 29: South Bengal is likely to see another spell of heavy rainfall as a fresh low-pressure area is expected to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and north Odisha.

South Bengal Braces for Heavy Rain as New Bay System Develops

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal and neighbouring coastal areas is likely to strengthen into a low-pressure area around August 29. The system is expected to increase rainfall activity across several parts of South Bengal over the coming days.

The weather department has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places in parts of South Bengal between August 28 and September 1. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely in some areas on August 30.

The fresh weather system comes as the region continues to experience active monsoon conditions. Several districts may receive periods of moderate to heavy rain, while coastal and adjoining areas could also experience gusty winds and thunderstorms.

The renewed spell of rain could bring relief from heat and humidity but may also create difficulties for commuters and residents in low-lying areas. Waterlogging, traffic disruptions and temporary problems in local transport are possible in areas that receive intense rainfall.

People living in vulnerable and low-lying locations have been advised to remain alert and follow updates issued by the weather department and local authorities.

The rainfall could also affect outdoor activities, transport and daily business operations in parts of South Bengal. Farmers and local administrations are expected to monitor the situation closely, particularly in areas vulnerable to water accumulation.

With the monsoon remaining active, residents are advised to plan travel carefully, avoid unnecessary movement during intense showers and take appropriate precautions during thunderstorms.

The IMD will continue to monitor the developing system and issue further updates as its movement and intensity become clearer.
