New Delhi, Sep 05: Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang expressed delight at the conferment of the Award of Excellence for Promoting Rural and Sustainable Tourism upon Sikkim Tourism during the Travel & Tourism Fair Mumbai, held from 20th to 22nd August 2026.

The prestigious award, recognising Sikkim’s continued commitment to responsible, community-based and sustainable tourism, was received by the Hon’ble Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Shri Tshering T. Bhutia, during the event and was subsequently handed over to the Chief Minister at Samman Bhawan.
The Chief Minister stated that the recognition is a testament to the collective efforts of the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, tourism stakeholders, local communities and the entire tourism fraternity in promoting Sikkim’s rich natural and cultural heritage, strengthening rural tourism and advancing sustainable tourism practices.
He extended his heartiest congratulations to the tourism fraternity and the people of Sikkim, stating that the honour would inspire renewed commitment towards positioning Sikkim as a leading destination for responsible, sustainable and experiential tourism.
The recognition further highlights Sikkim’s growing prominence as a destination that places community participation, environmental responsibility and the preservation of its unique cultural and natural heritage at the heart of tourism development.
