Apr 16: Baba Saab Bhimrao Ambedkar emphasised fraternity, alongside equality. Saksham Rozgar Society (SRS), a registered society in Uttar Pradesh, echoes this sentiment in its approach, fostering a sense of brotherhood amongst its members and beneficiaries. SRS fosters not just learning but a sense of community and shared progress.  SRS  celebrated the 135th  birth anniversary of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. More than 100 participants attended  this online celebration of the life of Ambedkar

Dr Laxman Yadav, the keynote speaker, remembered Dr Ambedkar by referring to his autobiography, Waiting for the Visa. He mentioned the struggle of Dr Ambedkar and his perseverance for a just India. He resigned as a law minister for the sake of the Hindu Code Bill.  Dr Ambedkar’s idea was not just equality but Samta & Nayay. Dr Ambedkar believed in the transformation of society through education and insisted that education should be affordable. The Ambedkar, who played a major role in the drafting of the Constitution, was shaped by three Gurus, Mahatma Buddha, Kabeer & Mahatma Jyotiba Phule.

On this occasion, a scholarship in the name of the late Smt. Sunita Dhingra, to the tune of Rs. 2,500/- p.m., was awarded to Rabia Khatun, a visually impaired student doing  B Ed from Maulana Azad National Urdu University. Sh. Arun &  Ms Veena Dhingra shared that the purpose of the scholarship is to facilitate the education of deserving students. There could not have been a student better than Rabia.

President, SRS is  Ms Jyotika Kalra, Advocate-on-Record at the Supreme Court of India and a former member of the National Human Rights Commission, welcomed the Women’s Reservation Act. She said that despite forming nearly half the population, women have long been underrepresented in political spaces. Similarly, reservations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes were introduced to correct deep-rooted historical injustices. Yet, debates continue, often questioning merit versus reservation. We must understand that reservation is not against merit, it is about creating a level playing field where everyone has a fair chance. Many eminent lawyers, social workers, teachers, and the office bearers of Saksham Bharti and Saksham Bharti Foundation participated in Jayanti.
