Bhubaneswar, Aug. 31 (UDN): The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) has opened the recruitment process for 172 Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) positions under the Odisha State Prosecution Service in the Home Department.

Interested and eligible law graduates can submit their applications through the commission’s official portal from August 28 to September 28, 2026, until 5 pm.

The recruitment offers candidates an opportunity to join the state prosecution service with a Level-10 pay scale carrying a basic salary of Rs 44,900, apart from Dearness Allowance and other allowances as applicable under Odisha Government rules.

172 APP Posts on Offer

The commission has announced a total of 172 vacancies, including 58 posts earmarked for women.

The category-wise distribution is as follows:

Unreserved (UR): 86 posts, including 29 for women
SEBC: 23 posts, including eight for women
SC: 27 posts, including nine for women
ST: 36 posts, including 12 for women

The recruitment also provides horizontal reservation for eligible candidates belonging to certain special categories. This includes eight posts for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) having a permanent disability of 40% or above, nine posts for Ex-Servicemen and two posts for Sports Persons.

Candidates selected under these horizontal reservation categories will be adjusted against the respective social category to which they belong.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must fulfil the educational and professional requirements prescribed by OPSC.

Candidates should have:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognised university.
At least two years of experience as a practising Advocate.

Applicants are advised to carefully verify the detailed eligibility conditions mentioned in the official recruitment advertisement before submitting their forms.

Age Limit

The prescribed age limit for the APP recruitment is:

Minimum: 21 years
Maximum: 42 years

The age will be calculated as of January 1, 2026.

According to the eligibility conditions, candidates should have been born between January 2, 1984 and January 1, 2005, both dates inclusive.

Applicable age relaxation and other benefits will be provided to eligible candidates as per government rules.

Application Fee

Candidates belonging to the SC, ST and PwD categories are exempt from paying the examination fee.

For all other applicants, the examination fee is Rs 700, payable online during the application process.

A notable provision is that the examination fee will be refunded to candidates who actually appear in the Preliminary Examination. The refund will be made to the original mode of payment after completion of the Preliminary Examination.

Three-Stage Selection Process

OPSC will select candidates through a three-stage recruitment process:

Preliminary Examination – 100 marks
Main Written Examination – 600 marks
Interview – 50 marks

The Main Written Examination and Interview together carry 650 marks, while the Preliminary Examination will be conducted separately as the screening stage.

OPSC APP Preliminary Exam on November 1

The Preliminary Examination is scheduled for November 1, 2026 (Sunday).

OPSC will announce the detailed examination schedule, venue and centre-related information separately. Candidates should regularly check the commission’s official website for updates.

Eligible candidates can apply online through the OPSC website within the prescribed application window.

The application process will remain open from August 28 to September 28, 2026, until 5 pm.

Applications submitted through any mode other than the prescribed online process will not be accepted.

Candidates are advised to read the detailed recruitment advertisement carefully, verify their eligibility and keep the required documents ready before completing the online application.

With the Preliminary Examination scheduled for November 1, eligible law graduates and practising advocates have a limited window to complete the application process and begin their preparation for the recruitment examination.
