Bhubaneswar, May 1 (BNP): In a major relief for dairy farmers across Odisha, the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) has increased the milk procurement price by ₹1 per litre in a move aimed at boosting farmers’ income and strengthening the state’s dairy sector.

With the latest revision, farmers supplying milk to OMFED will now receive ₹39.05 per litre, up from the earlier ₹38.05 per litre. The revised rate will come into effect from May 1, 2026, according to an official statement.
The decision comes at a time when dairy farmers have been facing rising input costs, including expenses on fodder, cattle feed, green grass, transportation, and veterinary medicines, all of which have put pressure on milk production and profitability.
OMFED said the price hike is part of its continued efforts to financially empower dairy farmers and ensure sustainable growth in milk production across the state.
Nearly 3 lakh dairy farmers associated with OMFED through its cooperative network are expected to directly benefit from the increase. The move is also likely to encourage higher milk supply and improve the economic condition of rural households dependent on dairy farming.
Farmers have welcomed the announcement and expressed satisfaction over the revised rates, stating that the increase will provide much-needed support amid rising operational costs.
OMFED, Odisha’s leading dairy cooperative brand, procures milk through a wide network of village-level cooperative societies and supplies milk and dairy products across the state.
The latest decision is expected to strengthen Odisha’s cooperative dairy ecosystem while reaffirming OMFED’s commitment to farmer welfare and rural prosperity.
