Bhubaneswar, Sept. 4 (UDN): The Odisha government has launched the Odisha Yatri Safety App, introducing a suite of emergency-response features, including one-click SOS alerts, live location sharing and shake-to-activate assistance, to enhance passenger and driver safety across the state’s public and shared mobility network.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled the upgraded safety module during the Local Self-Government Day celebrations on August 31 in the presence of Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra and actor Archita Sahu, the brand ambassador for Odisha Yatri.
Integrated into the existing Odisha Yatri platform, the new safety features are designed to provide immediate access to emergency assistance during distress situations for both passengers and drivers.
Among the key additions is the Shake & Alert feature, which enables users to send an emergency alert simply by shaking their mobile phone, allowing them to seek help even when opening the app may not be possible.
The app also offers a one-click SOS button that instantly connects users to the emergency response service 112 while simultaneously notifying their pre-selected trusted contacts.
Another major feature is live location sharing, allowing family members or friends to track a user’s journey in real time. The platform also provides quick access to police, ambulance and fire services from a single interface.
Additional emergency tools include audio recording during emergencies, trusted contact integration, consolidated emergency helpline access and a ‘Mark Ride as Safe’ option that lets users close an alert after reaching their destination safely.
Launching the initiative, Chief Minister Majhi said technology-driven safety solutions are essential for building citizen-friendly cities and strengthening public confidence in urban transport, particularly by enabling women to travel more securely.
Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr. Mahapatra said the initiative reflects the state’s commitment to creating a modern mobility ecosystem that prioritises safety, convenience and dignity for every commuter.
Archita Sahu urged citizens, especially women and young commuters, to familiarise themselves with the app’s emergency features and make full use of the platform’s safety tools.
Odisha Yatri already offers services such as ride booking, Ama Bus, FASTicket spot booking and boating services. With the addition of the dedicated safety module, the government aims to position it as a comprehensive and secure mobility platform for commuters across the state.
