Four-time MLA Mohan Charan Majhi has been announced as the next Chief Minister of Odisha by senior BJP leader and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Majhi, a prominent tribal leader from the coastal state, was elected unanimously by the Odisha BJP Legislature Party.

Rajnath Singh expressed his delight over Majhi’s selection, highlighting the unity within the party. Majhi, 52, succeeds the government that had been in power for the past 24 years, vowing to fulfil the aspirations of the people and drive the development of Odisha.

Alongside Majhi, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida have been appointed as deputy chief ministers. The BJP’s legislative meeting, attended by Rajnath Singh and Cabinet colleague Bhupender Yadav, finalized these appointments.

Majhi’s election from the Keonjhar Assembly seat saw him secure a victory margin of over 11,000 votes against Biju Janata Dal’s Mina Majhi and Congress candidate Prativa Manjari Naik. The BJP secured 78 seats in the 147-member Odisha Assembly, while the BJD won 51 seats.

The new leadership marks a significant shift in Odisha’s political landscape, promising a renewed focus on development and governance
