Pune, Aug 7: Team Vegapod Hyperloop, the official Hyperloop Club of MIT World Peace University , has brought international recognition to India by delivering an outstanding performance at the European Hyperloop Week 2026, held at the European Hyperloop Center, Groningen, The Netherlands.

Competing against leading engineering institutions from across the world, the team won the Emerging Engineering Talent Award, secured 7th Position Worldwide, and achieved 6th Position in Engineering Design, reaffirming MIT-WPU’s growing presence in advanced transportation research and innovation.
European Hyperloop Week is among the leading international student engineering competitions focused on Hyperloop technology, bringing together university teams from Europe, Asia, North America and the Middle East. Participants are evaluated through rigorous engineering design reviews, subsystem validations, technical presentations, safety assessments and prototype demonstrations by an international panel of industry experts and researchers.
The team’s success was driven by a series of innovative engineering solutions developed to enhance the performance, affordability and sustainability of Hyperloop systems. These include a Flat Linear Motor Propulsion System designed to improve energy-efficient electromagnetic thrust, and a lightweight, low-cost modular chassis that enhances structural efficiency while simplifying manufacturing and maintenance. Reflecting the originality of its research, Team Vegapod has also built a strong intellectual property portfolio with four Indian patents published and one patent granted in Germany.

Representing India at the competition, a delegation of 11 student engineers and two faculty advisors showcased the university’s engineering capabilities while collaborating with researchers, technology experts and fellow innovators from across the globe. Their achievement is the outcome of years of dedicated research, design, prototyping, testing and interdisciplinary teamwork.
With this achievement, Team Vegapod has further strengthened MIT-WPU’s presence in advanced mobility research while showcasing the growing capabilities of Indian engineering students on the global stage. The recognition reflects the university’s continued focus on research-led learning, innovation and industry-relevant engineering education.
By earning global recognition for its engineering excellence and patented innovations, the team has strengthened India’s presence in the rapidly evolving field of next-generation transportation and inspired a new generation of young innovators to pursue transformative engineering solutions.
