New Delhi, Aug 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address young people from across India on Thursday as part of the Khelo India Dialogue, an initiative aimed at strengthening the connection between sports, youth leadership, civic participation and nation-building.

Khelo India Dialogue to Connect India’s Sporting Goals with Youth Leadership and Nation-Building

The Prime Minister will address the programme through video conferencing at 11 a.m. during the National Sports Day 2026 celebrations. Organised by Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), the nationwide programme will bring together young participants at colleges across districts in States and Union Territories.

The initiative comes as India looks to strengthen its sporting ecosystem and pursue its ambition of hosting the 2036 Olympic Games. The dialogue will provide young people with an opportunity to discuss how they can contribute to India’s sporting journey as athletes, volunteers, leaders and active citizens.

A key part of the programme, Yuva Samvaad, will focus on five major areas. Discussions will cover improvements in sports infrastructure, coaching and sports science, along with strategies for identifying and developing future sporting talent.

Participants will also discuss ways to prepare athletes for the 2036 Olympics through transparent selection systems, scientific talent identification and long-term training programmes.

Youth leadership and volunteering will form another important part of the dialogue. Through MY Bharat platforms, young Indians will be encouraged to participate in community initiatives and take greater responsibility in civic and social activities.

The programme will also examine how young people can contribute to the Viksit Bharat vision by developing practical skills, civic awareness and a stronger culture of volunteering.

A separate focus will be placed on the Nasha Mukt Yuva campaign. Organisers will highlight the role of sports, fitness and peer networks in encouraging young people to stay away from substance abuse and adopt healthier lifestyles.

The national dialogue will be followed by activities at the local level, bringing together youth participants, MY Bharat volunteers, sportspersons and public representatives. Young sports enthusiasts will also have opportunities to interact with accomplished Indian athletes and medal winners.

The Khelo India Dialogue is intended to make National Sports Day more than a celebration of sporting achievements. It seeks to create a platform where India’s youth can share ideas, take part in community initiatives and play a meaningful role in shaping the country’s sporting and development priorities.

Through the initiative, the government aims to promote a generation that is fitter, more confident, socially responsible and prepared to contribute to India’s long-term development and Olympic aspirations.
