Delhi, April 16: In a moment that brings together India’s space ambitions with its cultural and creative expression, India Post has unveiled a commemorative stamp inspired by the Axiom mission patch designed by Manish Tripathi. The release marks a rare intersection of science, design and national storytelling.

From Orbit to Envelope: ISRO-Backed Mission Patch Released as Commemorative Stamp, Designed by Manish Tripathi

Originally created as the official mission insignia, the patch was worn by Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla during the Axiom mission, symbolizing India’s growing presence in human spaceflight. Its evolution into a commemorative postage stamp now takes that story beyond space, carrying it into homes across the country.

The stamp was unveiled in Bengaluru in the presence of senior dignitaries from ISRO, India Post and the Department of Space, highlighting the significance of the occasion within India’s scientific and institutional landscape.

Reflecting on the moment, Manish Tripathi said,

“To see a design that began as an emblem on an astronaut’s suit find a place in India’s postal history is incredibly humbling. A stamp is not just a medium of communication, it is a lasting record. For this mission and its story to travel into homes across the country in this form is truly special.”

The mission patch was conceived as a visual narrative that captures the spirit of exploration, national pride and India’s forward-looking vision in space. Its journey from a space suit to a postage stamp was initiated by ISRO and brought to life by India Post, marking a unique collaboration between scientific achievement and creative expression.

More than a commemorative release, the stamp stands as a reflection of how India is documenting its space journey, not just through missions and milestones, but through symbols that carry meaning across generations.

For Manish Tripathi, founder of aantarDESI, this moment represents a significant milestone, reinforcing the role of design in shaping contemporary national narratives, where ideas rooted in identity and culture can travel as far as space and return to become part of the country’s living history.
