Paris, Aug 22: France is preparing for the inauguration of the BAPS Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir in Bussy-Saint-Georges, near Paris, marking a significant moment for the Indian community and the country’s growing cultural engagement with India.
The temple is scheduled to open in September 2026, with a 13-day Festival of Culture planned from September 2 to 14. The celebrations will include religious ceremonies, cultural programmes and events designed to bring people from different communities together.
Built according to traditional Hindu temple architecture, the mandir reflects Indian craftsmanship and heritage. The project is being presented as France’s first traditional Hindu temple, adding a distinctive Indian cultural landmark to the Paris region.
The temple complex is located in Bussy-Saint-Georges, where it forms part of an area known for bringing different religious and cultural communities together.
The inauguration celebrations will extend beyond the temple, with programmes planned in and around Paris. These include a Nagar Yatra through the city and a Jal Yatra on the River Seine, offering visitors an opportunity to experience Indian traditions and cultural expressions.
The opening is expected to be an important occasion for the Indian diaspora in France, providing a space for worship, cultural activities, community engagement and dialogue.
The mandir is also being positioned as a place that welcomes people from different backgrounds, with its organisers emphasising values of faith, harmony and service.
The September celebrations are expected to draw visitors from across France and other countries, turning the inauguration into a major cultural event and highlighting the continuing people-to-people ties between India and France.
