Angul,Aug. 22 (UDN): At least five workers suffered critical burn injuries after a powerful explosion at NTPC’s Kaniha Thermal Power Station in Odisha’s Angul district on Saturday morning.

According to preliminary information, the blast occurred inside Bunker (B) of the plant, located in Pallahara, triggering an emergency response from plant authorities and local medical teams.
The injured workers sustained severe burn injuries and were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Three of the victims were taken to a hospital in Talcher, while two others were referred to Bhubaneswar for advanced medical care due to the seriousness of their condition.
Officials have not yet confirmed the cause of the explosion. Authorities are expected to conduct an investigation to determine what triggered the blast and whether plant operations or safety systems were affected.
Emergency teams remain at the site, and further details are awaited as officials assess the situation.
