Guwahati, Aug 24: The inaugural Assam Premier League (APL) has concluded with Barpeta Braves winning the title after defeating Guwahati Royals by five wickets in the final.
The tournament provided a competitive platform for players from across Assam, with around 150 cricketers representing eight teams during the first season. The league gave emerging players an opportunity to gain experience, perform in pressure situations and attract attention from the wider cricketing community.
Denish Das was among the tournament’s notable performers. He earned a place in the Duleep Trophy squad and finished his APL campaign with a century. Rohit Sen, Bastab Roy, Shubham Kumar Gupta and Ayushman Malakar also produced encouraging performances during the competition.
The tournament attracted attention from the Indian Premier League ecosystem, with scouts from Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru attending matches. BCCI President Mithun Manhas also attended the league, adding to the growing interest in cricketing talent from Assam.
The inaugural season produced several high-scoring matches, successful run chases and close finishes. The final attracted more than 25,000 spectators, reflecting the strong interest in cricket among fans across the state.
Assam Cricket Association president Taranga Gogoi said the league represents an important step in developing cricket in Assam and providing players with regular competitive opportunities.
The successful first season has created a foundation for the league to become a long-term platform for local talent. With continued investment in player development and competitive cricket, the APL could help more Assam cricketers progress to domestic and national-level opportunities.
