Monsoon Season Brings Common Health Concerns

20th July 2024- The arrival of the monsoon season provides much-needed relief from the sweltering summer heat, rejuvenating the earth with refreshing rain showers. However, this time of year also brings a range of health concerns due to increased humidity, stagnant water, and a rise in vector-borne diseases, necessitating preventive measures.

Excessive moisture in the air during the monsoons can lead to an increase in fungal and bacterial activity, causing various skin and hair issues such as pimples, rashes, allergies, hair fall, and dandruff. To protect yourself, it is essential to stay hydrated, drink only boiled water, maintain strict personal hygiene, wear full-sleeved and light clothing, and eat a balanced diet to strengthen your immune system.

Dengue: Dengue is the most viral and dangerous disease in monsoon as soon as monsoon arrives cases of dengue arise. This disease is spread by female Aedes mosquitoes, which bite during the daytime or before dusk. Symptoms include high fever and body aches.

Malaria: Caused by mosquitoes breeding in stagnant water, malaria presents symptoms like high fever, shivering, body chills, excess sweating, and severe anaemia.

Typhoid: Highly infectious, typhoid is caused by contaminated food and water. Symptoms include prolonged high fever, weakness, abdominal pain, and reduced appetite.

Influenza: Sudden weather changes and temperature fluctuations can lead to influenza, a viral infection with symptoms like fever, muscle aches, sore throat, nasal congestion, and persistent cough. If left untreated, it can worsen.

Common Cold and Cough: Respiratory illnesses peak during the monsoon, with common symptoms such as a runny nose, sneezing, coughing, throat irritation, and difficulty swallowing.

Viral Fever: Often accompanying a cold and cough, viral fever is prevalent during the rainy season.
Skin Allergies and Infections:

Monsoon also brings skin allergies and infections. Those with weak immunity or diabetes are more susceptible to skin issues caused by high humidity. Skin allergies, rashes, and infections from fungus, yeast, or bacteria are common during this season.

To stay healthy during the monsoon, it is crucial to be aware of these health concerns and take preventive measures to protect yourself and your loved ones.
