Bengaluru, June 5 : Fortis Hospital Cunningham Road has achieved a significant milestone in advanced surgical care, successfully performing over 300 robot-assisted surgeries since the launch of its robotic surgery programme in 2024. The state-of-the-art platform is being utilized across multiple specialties, including Urology, Kidney Transplant, General Surgery, Gynaecology, and Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery , enabling surgeons to perform highly complex procedures with enhanced precision and control. The robotic platform offers several patient benefits, including minimal blood loss, reduced post-operative pain, smaller incisions, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery, reinforcing the hospital’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge, patient-centric healthcare.

As part of this milestone, doctors at Fortis Hospital Cunningham Road recently performed a complex robot-assisted radical prostatectomy on a 68-year-old male who had been suffering from severe urinary difficulties for nearly 2 decades due to prostate enlargements and recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. The patient had been experiencing significant difficulty in passing urine, which was affecting his daily activities and quality of life. After a detailed evaluation, doctors diagnosed him with prostate cancer along with associated urinary obstruction which required an immediate surgical intervention. The robotic procedure was successfully performed, enabling precise removal of the cancerous prostate while preserving surrounding critical structures and supporting a smoother recovery.
Dr. Shakir Tabrez, Director – Urology, Uro-Oncology, Uro-Gynaecology, Andrology, Kidney Transplant & Robotic Surgery, Fortis Hospital, Cunningham Road, Bengaluru, said,
“Robot-assisted surgery has significantly enhanced our ability to manage complex urological conditions with greater precision and control. The platform provides surgeons with superior visualisation and dexterity, allowing us to perform intricate procedures through very small incisions. This often translates into lower blood loss, reduced postoperative pain, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery for patients. The growing adoption of robotic surgery reflects the confidence patients place in advanced, minimally invasive treatment options.”
Highlighting the impact of robotic surgery as a multidisciplinary platform, Dr. Mohan Keshavamurthy, Principal Director – Renal Sciences, Fortis Hospitals Bengaluru, said,
“The completion of 300 robotic-assisted procedures is a significant milestone and reflects how advanced surgical technologies are transforming patient care across multiple specialties. Whether in urology, general surgery, gynaecology or cardiac sciences, robotic platforms are helping surgeons deliver greater surgical precision while helping patients benefit from reduced pain, lower blood loss, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery.”
Commenting on the milestone, Mr. Praveen Wali, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital, Cunningham Road, said,
“The completion of 300 robot-assisted surgeries is a proud milestone for Fortis Cunningham and reflects the growing trust that patients place in our advanced surgical care program. Over the past several months, our teams have successfully managed many complex cases across multiple specialties using robot-assisted technology. We remain committed to investing in advanced clinical technologies and expanding access to world-class treatment options that improve patient outcomes.”
