Mumbai,  June 26: CodeSkin recently hosted an engaging media roundtable featuring its Founder, Oscar Pereira, where he shared insights on the evolving skincare landscape, the importance of science-led formulations and the brand’s commitment to delivering performance-driven products.

CodeSkin’s Oscar Pereira Calls Out ‘Greenwashing’, Champions Science-Backed Skincare

During the interaction, Pereira reflected on his journey in the skincare industry, including his earlier venture that was acquired by L’Oréal in 2013. He revealed that while he had initially decided to step away from the industry, a growing concern around misleading claims and ineffective products brought him back with a renewed purpose.

Focus on Science, Not Trends

A key highlight of the discussion was CodeSkin’s strong focus on science-backed skincare. Pereira emphasized that the brand does not follow market fads or viral trends unless they are backed by credible research.

He noted that CodeSkin avoids over 1,700 restricted or questionable ingredients and does not rely on perfumes or superficial appeal to sell products. Instead, the brand prioritizes efficacy, safety and long-term skin health.

Addressing Industry Challenges and Consumer Awareness

Pereira also spoke candidly about industry challenges, particularly the rise of greenwashing and misinformation driven by social media. He highlighted how the overuse of multiple active ingredients, often promoted online, is damaging consumers’ skin barriers.

He stressed the need for consumer education, calling it the most important factor in achieving effective skincare outcomes.

Product Philosophy Rooted in Efficacy

The conversation also touched upon CodeSkin’s product philosophy, which focuses on performance-driven formulations tailored to real skin concerns. Pereira highlighted key products such as the Hyaluronic Acid Serum, designed to improve skin hydration and plumpness, and the Barrier Defense Lotion, aimed at repairing damaged skin barriers.

He explained that instead of quick fixes or aggressive treatments, CodeSkin focuses on non-invasive, gradual, and sustainable skincare solutions.

Customized Approach Over One-Size-Fits-All

Rejecting the idea of universal products, Pereira emphasized that skincare must be aligned with individual skin types and concerns. This philosophy extends to CodeSkin’s sunscreen range as well, where the brand offers multiple formulations suited for different skin conditions, including sensitive, oily and acne-prone skin.

Digital Evolution and AI Integration

Highlighting the growing role of digital platforms, Pereira shared that CodeSkin is working towards integrating AI-driven skin analysis tools to guide consumers in choosing the right products. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between expert consultation and digital convenience.

Summer Skincare and New-Age Sunscreens

Addressing seasonal skincare needs, Pereira underlined the importance of sunscreen as a non-negotiable step, especially in the Indian climate. CodeSkin has introduced a range of new-age sunscreens with advanced filters designed for different skin types and concerns.

He also pointed out that SPF selection should be aligned with India’s high UV index, advocating for higher protection levels and correct usage practices.

Conclusion

The roundtable concluded with Pereira reiterating CodeSkin’s long-term vision – to build a brand grounded in credibility, innovation, and consumer trust. With plans to expand into beauty-from-within solutions and continued focus on research-led formulations, the brand aims to redefine how consumers approach skincare.
