Aug 21: After a long journey of bringing the world of Mahaprabhu Jagannath to life, ELE Animations’ much-awaited animated feature Mahaprabhu Jagannath is finally set to arrive in cinemas on August 28, 2026, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan and Balaram Jayanti. For the makers, the release timing carries a significance of its own, coming during a period when families come together in celebration and devotees across the country observe important occasions rooted in faith and spirituality.
Balaram Jayanti, which marks the birth anniversary of Lord Balaram, the elder brother of Lord Krishna, is observed on the full moon day of Shravan and holds deep religious and cultural significance. For Mahaprabhu Jagannath, a film deeply rooted in the spiritual world and the timeless traditions surrounding Mahaprabhu, releasing on this sacred occasion makes the theatrical arrival particularly meaningful.
The makers believe that after everything the film has travelled through, reaching audiences on this auspicious day is a blessing in itself. The film’s journey has been shaped by the intention of making India’s spiritual and cultural heritage accessible to a new generation, particularly children and families, through animation and storytelling. That Mahaprabhu Jagannath will now enter theatres during a period marked by devotion, family and the celebration of divine relationships is a moment the entire team considers deeply special.
Produced by ELE Animations, Mahaprabhu Jagannath is the first theatrical feature from the studio’s Sanatan Universe, bringing together mythology, fantasy, adventure, devotion and philosophy in a cinematic experience created for audiences across generations. At the heart of the film is the journey of Jagan and Balram, taking audiences into a world of divine adventures while exploring faith, courage, compassion, humility and the power of devotion.
The film has already built anticipation through its devotional music and trailer. Its soundtrack, released across Hindi, Odia and Telugu, features voices including Atharva Bakshi, Aviral Kumar and Abhay Jodhpurkar, while the trailer was unveiled by Pujya Shri Indresh Ji Upadhyaya Maharaj during his Bhagwad Katha in Cuttack, Odisha, in the presence of more than 10,000 devotees.
Speaking about the release, Durga Prasad Dalai, Producer of Mahaprabhu Jagannath, said:
“There are certain moments that feel like they have been decided for you. After everything this film has gone through, to finally see Mahaprabhu Jagannath reaching theatres on Raksha Bandhan and Balaram Jayanti feels like His blessing. Balaram Jayanti is a deeply significant occasion. We have always wanted to make a film that allows children and families to experience the world of Mahaprabhu Jagannath together, and there could not be a more beautiful time for that journey to begin. We have done our part with complete faith and sincerity, and now we leave the film in Mahaprabhu’s hands.”
The film’s arrival also comes as the festive calendar moves into a period of heightened spiritual celebration, with Janmashtami following soon after. For audiences, the release offers an opportunity to experience a story rooted in India’s spiritual traditions with their families during one of the most culturally significant periods of the year.
With Mahaprabhu Jagannath, ELE Animations hopes to create more than an animated theatrical experience. The film is an attempt to introduce younger audiences to the stories, values and cultural traditions surrounding Mahaprabhu Jagannath in a format that is contemporary, immersive and accessible, while retaining the spiritual essence at its heart.
Mahaprabhu Jagannath releases in cinemas across on August 28, 2026.
