Mumbai, Apr 17: Amazon MX Player, India’s leading free, premium, ad-supported video streaming service, continues to win hearts with its gritty cop drama, Kaptaan. Set in the volatile world of Jwalabad, the series is driven by morally complex characters who are brought to life by a powerhouse ensemble cast, including Saqib Saleem, Siddharth Nigam, Kavita Kaushik, Varun Badola, Aarif Zakaria, Poojaa Gor, Vikram Kochhar, and Anushka Kaushik. Among the show’s most striking characters is Anjumm Shharma as Munna, the menacing antagonist who brings a dangerous edge to this crime-driven narrative rooted in vengeance, power struggles, and shifting loyalties. For Anjumm, the role marked a clear departure from the space audiences have seen him in before, giving him the chance to tap into something darker, more unpredictable, and deliciously pulpy.
Recalling his first reaction to Kaptaan’s script, Anjumm shares,
“I really loved the way they narrated the entire story to me. It had a very pulpy, commercial, and heartland flavour, which immediately pulled me in. It was also very different from what I did in Mirzapur, and that excited me even more because it gave me a new region and a new space to explore. They offered me a very interesting antagonist, someone dark, entertaining, humorous, and highly unpredictable. And I’ve always believed that an antagonist is extremely important in a story like this. After all, we’ve grown up watching some iconic villains, be it Gabbar Singh or Mogambo.”
He further reflected on why Kaptaan felt like the right move at this point in his journey, adding,
“After being a part of a show like Mirzapur for consecutive seasons, this felt very different to me. I really wanted to work in a different environment, and that’s when Kaptaan came to me. Even the production house, I really wanted to collaborate with them.”
Directed by Jatin Wagle and produced by Pammi Baweja and Harman Baweja, under the banner of Baweja Studios, Kaptaan is now streaming for free exclusively on Amazon MX Player, available across mobile devices, Connected TVs, the Amazon shopping app, Prime Video, Fire TV, Jio TV and Airtel Xstream.
