Bhopal, Sep 1: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has transferred more than Rs 304 crore directly into the bank accounts of over 1.21 lakh meritorious students to help them purchase laptops.
The assistance has been provided under the state’s Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana. Students who secured 75 per cent or more marks in their Class 12 examination in their first attempt are eligible for financial assistance of Rs 25,000 each for purchasing a laptop.
The money is being transferred directly to students’ bank accounts, allowing them to choose a laptop according to their educational requirements. The initiative is aimed at making digital learning more accessible and helping students use online study material, educational platforms and other technology-based resources.
At a programme in Bhopal, the Chief Minister also interacted with students and symbolically presented laptops to some beneficiaries. He highlighted the importance of supporting young people as they prepare for higher education and future careers.
The scheme, launched in 2009-10, is designed to encourage academic performance while helping meritorious students gain access to digital tools. More than four lakh students have benefited from the programme since its launch, according to the government.
The latest financial support is expected to help students from different backgrounds bridge the digital gap and make better use of technology in their studies. Access to laptops can also help young people develop digital skills that are increasingly important for higher education and employment.
The initiative reflects the growing importance of technology in education and the state’s effort to invest in its young population. By combining academic incentives with digital access, the programme aims to give meritorious students better opportunities to continue their education and prepare for a technology-driven economy.
