
Mumbai, Apr 15: Istituto Marangoni School of Fashion & Design, Mumbai is pleased to announce the appointment of Kristian Steinberg as its new Director of Education. With a distinguished international career spanning fashion design, education, and academic leadership, Steinberg will lead the institute’s academic vision and further strengthen its commitment to innovation, creativity, and excellence in fashion education.
In his new role, Kristian will oversee the academic direction and strategic development of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across Fashion, Design and Business areas. He will focus on enhancing the learning experience through a forward-thinking, interdisciplinary approach that integrates creativity, technology, and industry relevance.
Originally from Estonia and educated in Sweden and the UK, Kristian brings with him a uniquely multidisciplinary background. His academic journey spans chemical engineering at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, textile and fine arts at Konstfack University, and menswear fashion design at Central Saint Martins, London, where he graduated with top honours. He also trained at the prestigious Alexander McQueen studio during his time in London.
Kristian’s professional career includes working with globally renowned designers such as Matthew Williamson, Roksanda Ilincic, Halston and Amanda Wakeley, was part of retail operations of Emporio Armani, Prada and Escada alongside launching his name sake menswear label, which showcased at international platforms including London Fashion Week.
Prior to joining the Mumbai campus, Kristian served as Director of Education at Istituto Marangoni Shanghai, where he led academic transformation across programmes and mentored a new generation of award-winning designers and entrepreneurs. His tenure saw the development of innovative teaching methodologies rooted in transdisciplinary thinking, combining design, technology, and critical inquiry.
A strong advocate of holistic education, Kristian’s philosophy blends creative practice with analytical thinking, drawing from diverse disciplines such as engineering, philosophy, and emotional intelligence. His work in education has consistently focused on nurturing innovation, fostering experimentation, and preparing students to navigate the evolving global fashion landscape.
