A high-level delegation from Western Sydney University (WSU), Australia, led by Prof. (Dr.) George Williams AO, Vice Chancellor and President, comprising of Prof. (Dr.) Deborah Sweeney, Provost; Dr. Nicolene Murdoch, Pro Vice Chancellor (Educational Partnerships and Quality); Dr. Kopal Chaube, Lead for Research Collaborations and Partnerships (South Asia), Western Sydney University(WSU), and Mr. Himanshu Atri, TNE Recruitment Manager, visited Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida campus, with an aim to strengthen the strategic academic, research and institutional partnership between the two institutions.
Expressing his views, Prof. (Dr.) George Williams AO said, “India is an important and valued partner for Western Sydney University (WSU), and we see tremendous potential to further deepen our engagement with Amity University. We would like to create new opportunities for students to access high-quality international education and strengthen academic linkages between Australia and India. We also see significant scope for impactful joint initiatives in circular agriculture, sustainability, climate-smart practices, advanced technologies, joint research and innovation. Through this partnership, we hope to develop meaningful academic and research programmes that address emerging global challenges while creating lasting value for students, researchers, communities and both countries. Furthermore, by combining high-quality international education with industry exposure, experiential learning and cross-border academic engagement, we aim to equip students with the skills, global competencies and adaptability required to enhance their employability and succeed in an evolving global workforce.”
Presenting an Overview of Amity Education Group, Prof. (Dr.) Gurinder Singh, Group Vice Chancellor, Amity Universities, averred, “Amity University shares a decade-long relationship with Western Sydney University (WSU) and this visit marks a significant milestone in our shared commitment to advancing global education, research and innovation, offering students greater access to international academic opportunities within India. Our association in agriculture and sustainability can further bring together multidisciplinary expertise to address critical challenges related to climate change, water management, food security and sustainable development. Alongside this, joint and dual degree programmes, immersion opportunities and academic mobility can provide students and faculty with meaningful international exposure, cross-cultural learning and opportunities to engage with global academic and research ecosystems.”
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, stated, “NEP 2020 provides a strong framework for strengthening international academic collaborations and creating globally relevant educational opportunities. Amity’s ‘Boundless’ initiative further advances this vision by enabling students to focus on interdisciplinary education and research. Our collaboration with WSU will advance student mobility and research, driving sustainable solutions to critical challenges in agriculture, water, climate and technology.”
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Deborah Sweeney, Provost, WSU, said, “Our partnership with Amity offers strong potential for innovative academic pathways that equip students with global capabilities, and we are glad to partner with Amity.”
On this occasion, a ceremonial tree plantation was held, wherein 600 plants were planted at the Amity University campus. Also present on the occasion were Dr. Chanderdeep Tandon & Dr. Sunil K. Khattri, Additional Pro Vice Chancellors Amity University, Dr. Nutan Kaushik, Director General- Amity Food and Agriculture Foundation, HOIs, Deans and students of Amity.
