Pilani, Sept 15: Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilaniconcluded its 2026 admissions with its best-ever admission intake, welcoming a total of 3,181 students (2723 male and 449 female) through BITSAT, including the 2+2 programmes. The incoming cohort represents the top 2% (approx.) of the BITSAT applicant pool, underscoring the strong academic caliber of students choosing BITS Pilani.This year, BITSAT received 1,60,995 unique application submissions, reflecting the continued strong demand for admission to the Institute.
The number of students from among the top 500 BITSAT rankers joining BITS with full tuition support increased by 62.5 per cent compared with 2025.
The admission process witnessed an increase in admission cut-offs across the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) and the Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) programmes, reflecting continued demand for academic programmes at BITS Pilani.
·The lowest cut-off under PCM programmes increased from 203 in 2025 to 220 in 2026.
·Under PCB, the lowest cut-off for B.Pharm. increased from 151 in 2025 to 200 in 2026
·For B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engineering, the lowest cut-off increased from 181 in 2025 to 208 in 2026.
·The lowest cut-off for M.Sc. Biology increased from 203 in 2025 to 217 in 2026.
·The newly introduced B.E. Pharmaceutical Engineering programme recorded a lowest admission cut-off of 205.
Speaking about the Institute’s commitment to merit and accessible education, Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Group Vice Chancellor, BITS Pilani, said, “Merit has always been central to BITS Pilani. For a family deciding where their child should study, an upfront tuition scholarship for four years makes a real difference. We want to give more deserving students that confidence,”
Financial support for students
During the 2026 admission cycle, BITS Pilani further strengthened its financial support initiatives. This year, the total upfront scholarship amount offered for a semester increased to Rs. 11.513 crore, compared with Rs. 10.131 crore in 2025.
A significant new initiative in 2026 is the introduction of the Tuition Blind Scholarship. Under the scheme, selected candidates received 100 percent upfront tuition support for all four years, subject to maintaining the prescribed minimum CGPA. A total of 39 candidates received the Tuition Blind Scholarship in 2026.
The Institute also expanded the eligibility for its Merit-cum-Need (MCN) Scholarship, increasing the annual parental income threshold from Rs. 15 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh for the 2026 admissions cycle. The enhanced threshold is intended to extend access to financial support to a wider pool of meritorious students.
High-achieving international student cohort
BITS Pilani recorded growth in admissions through its International Student Admissions (ISA) mode. The number of students admitted through the ISA route increased from 143 in 2025 to 150 in 2026, with the United States of America continuing to be the largest source country for international admissions.
With a growing number of high-achieving students choosing BITS Pilani, the Institute continues to attract top talent from India and abroad. This reflects its strong academic reputation and commitment to expanding access through enhanced financial support and new academic opportunities.
