Gurugram, Aug 6: Amity University Haryana commenced Deeksharambh 2026, its annual student induction and orientation programme, welcoming the new cohort of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Inspired by this year’s theme “Discover. Aspire. Achieve.” the inaugural session addressed how this generation of students, the first to have grown up entirely in a digital environment, should prepare for study and work in the age of Artificial Intelligence.
Structured around the University‘s SAGE Framework of Socializing, Associating, Governing and Experiencing, the programme is designed to support the transition into university life and build the foundations of academic rigour, innovation and ethical leadership.
During the inaugural ceremony, Shri Akhilesh Mishra, Former Ambassador of India to Ireland, addressed the gathering as Chief Guest, urging students to stay rooted in India’s cultural heritage while embracing innovation. Ms. Jill Lai, Director, Education Division, Taipei Economic & Cultural Centre in India, spoke on international opportunities, including higher education pathways in Taiwan, encouraging students to go out of their comfort zone and remain curious.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Shashank Shah, Director, Higher Education & Viksit Bharat Planning, NITI Aayog, urged students to build their university experience on strong personal values. “I urge each one of you to embrace four vows—self-transformation, self-purpose, self-discovery, and self-effort. Let these become the foundation of your journey at Amity and the guiding principles of your future,” he said, while also encouraging students to adopt environmentally responsible and sustainable lifestyles.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Dr. P.B. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, highlighted the immense potential of Generation Z and called upon students to leverage technology for academic excellence, innovation, and nation-building. Referring to them as “India’s first digital-native generation,” he described them as “nation builders in the age of AI” and urged them to pursue knowledge with integrity, allowing “courage, calibre, conviction, and character” to guide their journey while applying their talents for the greater good of society.
Welcoming the students to the Amity family, Prof. Dr. Vikas Madhukar, Pro Vice Chancellor, reflected on this year‘s theme, “Discover. Aspire. Achieve.” He emphasised that long-term success stems from taking ownership of one’s future, developing emotional resilience, practising empathy, maintaining consistency, and prioritising physical and mental well-being. “Your success will not be measured by your degree alone, but by your integrity. Master the art of consistency. Success does not happen by accident, it is built through consistent effort. A thousand-mile journey begins with a single step,” he said.
The day continued with “My First Day @ Amity,” an interactive session at the University‘s Central Plaza hosted by RJ Arjun of Radio City 91.1 FM, followed by institute-level orientation sessions to help students familiarise themselves with the campus and their peers.
Amity University Haryana was ranked 60th globally and 17th in India in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025 under SDG 15: Life on Land and holds the US LEED Platinum Certification for sustainable campus development.
