A High - level Delegation led by Bhutan’s Education Minister, Her Excellency Ms. Yeezang D. Thapa, visits Amity University

In a significant step towards advancing global educational partnerships, a high – level Delegation led by Her Excellency Ms. Yeezang D. Thapa, Minister for the Ministry of Education & Skills Development, visited Amity University, to explore new avenues of academic and research collaboration. 

The delegation comprised of Mr. Dasho Phub Rinzin, Director General, Department of Workforce Planning and Skills Development (DWPSD); Mr. Tashi Namgyal, Director, Department of School Education; Ms. Ugyen Tshomo, Chief, Adult and Higher Education Division; Ms. Tandin Wangmo, Personal Secretary to the Education Minister; and Mr. Tsheten Dorji, Education Counsellor, Royal Bhutanese Embassy, New Delhi.

Addressing the gathering, Her Excellency Ms. Yeezang D. Thapa highlighted the strong relationship between India and Bhutan, particularly in the field of education. She said, “India and Bhutan have always believed in shared values, and in the field of education, we see Amity as our closest partner. We are impressed by the curriculum, research programmes, training initiatives, infrastructure, and facilities available at Amity University, which make it a globally recognized institution.”

She further emphasized upon Bhutan’s focus on transforming its education ecosystem by integrating quality education with skill development and strengthening school education. Highlighting the importance of preparing students for global challenges, she stated that Bhutan has undertaken significant reforms to enhance students’ capabilities and stressed upon the need for continuous professional development of teachers.

“Teacher training is a fundamental element of education, and we look forward to strengthening our cooperation with Amity University in this important area,” Ms. Thapa said. She also appreciated the support extended by Amity University to Bhutanese students pursuing their education at the university.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh stated that India and Bhutan share a strong bond built on mutual trust and cooperation. She highlighted Amity University’s continued engagement with Bhutan through various academic and training initiatives, including programmes for Bhutanese teachers.

Dr. Shukla asserted that more than 150 Bhutanese students are currently pursuing their studies at Amity University and expressed the institution’s commitment to expanding collaboration with the Bhutanese government in areas such as education and training programmes for government officials, school principals, teachers, counsellors, higher education faculty, corporate professionals, and aspiring entrepreneurs.

She also emphasized Amity’s willingness to collaborate on capacity-building programmes, student skill enhancement initiatives, and joint research projects, while providing an overview of Amity’s institutions, academic programmes, and global initiatives.

Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President, Amity Science Technology and Innovation Foundation, highlighted Amity’s vision of nurturing students as responsible global citizens. He shared that the university focuses on providing extensive research opportunities and developing entrepreneurial capabilities of the students.
Dr. Selvamurthy also presented insights into the research work undertaken by Amity scientists and researchers, along with the university’s achievements and initiatives in the area of research and innovation.

Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Sanjeev Bansal, Additional Pro Vice Chancellor, AUUP, remarked , “Amity University extends a warm welcome to the delegation led by Her Excellency Ms. Yeezang D. Thapa. The visit marks an important step towards strengthening India–Bhutan educational partnerships and exploring collaborative opportunities in innovation, skill development, research, and global learning.”

Dr. Chandradeep Tandon, Additional Pro Vice Chancellor, Amity University, delivered the vote of thanks.
On this occasion, Dr. Anjani Kumar Bhatnagar, Deputy Director, Amity Technical Placement Centre, shared information about student support systems and placement initiatives. 

During the visit, the delegation took a round of several advanced facilities of the University including Amity Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Amity Innovation Incubator, Central Library, and the research laboratories.
