Bengaluru: January 20, 2024: The Indian Institute of Interior Designers Bangalore Regional Chapter (IIID BRC) inaugurated its fourth design festival in the city, Designuru 4.0 today at the Rangoli Metro Boulevard. The week-long bi-annual design festival scheduled between the 19th to the 25th of January will host on each day an array of talks, panel discussions, design installations, exhibits, movies, workshops, on a range of topics that encompass interior design, architecture, adaptive reuse, ecology, urban design and design inclusivity. Each day is carefully curated by leading Architecture Practices from the city, with the final day hosting an exclusive participation from emerging Architecture Practices.
Inaugurating Designuru 4.0 were the Chief Guests, Honourable Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. D K Shivakumar, Padma Shri awardee Bidri artist, Mr. Shah Rasheed Ahmed Quadri along with, Guests of Honour, Dr. S Devarajan, President BCIC, Ms Kalpana Kataria, Head of Connectivity and Asset Management, BMRC, Mr. Vineet Verma, Sr. Vice-President, BCIC, Mr Prashanth Gokhale, Vice-President, BCIC, Ms Roopa Mohan, Secretary General, BCIC.
The week-long design festival includes live demonstrations by national award-winning artisans from across Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and serves as a virtual design treat for the public to connect with. National award-winning Bidri artisans from Bidar will be displaying the intricate Bidri work on the 19th and 20th, while 21st and 22nd will witness a display of spectacular wood carvings by national award-winning wood craftsmen from Thammampatti. Besides these, there will be a display of the famous Athangudi tiles of Karaikudi by artisans on 23rd and 24th and a display of Tanjore paintings by Tanjore painting artist on the 25th.
Inaugurating the DesignUru, Hon Dy Chief Minister Mr D K Shivakumar said, ” It is the architects who make a city. They are responsible for all the beautiful buildings we see in Bengaluru. The government is here to lend any support required by the architect fraternity. I request you all to reach out for any assistance you require from the government.”
Speaking at the inauguration, Architect Gunjan Das, Chairperson, IIID BRC said, “The idea behind the conceptualization of Designuru was to send the message that design is meant for the masses and not confined to the elite as is often erroneously perceived. Design pertains to bringing about comfort and offering a better quality of life which indirectly increases productivity as well as improve health standards through its active intervention. We are sure Designuru 4.0 will be a treat not just for designers but also for the general public.”
