New Delhi, September 15: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang performed the Vastu Puja of the newly constructed Jan Sewa Bhawan (Mini Secretariat) at Lumsey, in Gangtok district on Sunday, coinciding with the auspicious occasions of Ganesh Chaturthi and Teej.
The Chief Minister said the new administrative facility would play an important role in bringing governance closer to the people and making public service delivery simpler, faster and more accessible.
The Jan Sewa Bhawan was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to Sikkim. The facility will officially commence functioning from September 15, with major departments including Rural Development, Health & Family Welfare, Education, Water Resources, the Sikkim Public Service Commission and the Corporation Department operating from the premises.
Tamang said the facility would particularly benefit people from distant districts by reducing the need to travel to Gangtok for various official requirements. He said the move would help reduce travel, expenditure and waiting time while improving access to government services.
“This is precisely what people-centric governance means—taking the Government to the people rather than making people travel long distances to reach the Government,” Tamang said.
He said the state government remained committed to strengthening infrastructure across Sikkim, including roads and bridges, healthcare, education, administrative infrastructure and public facilities, with the welfare and convenience of citizens at the centre of its development initiatives.
Envisioned as a modern, accessible and efficient administrative centre, the Jan Sewa Bhawan is expected to contribute to a more decentralised system of governance and make government services more responsive and citizen-friendly.
Tamang also expressed confidence that officers and staff posted at the facility would discharge their responsibilities with dedication, efficiency and compassion, and uphold a renewed spirit of public service.
