Saideep Sahyadri Hospital records 5,860 ECG screenings across seven locations in Ahilyanagar

Ahilyanagar, 01 October 2026: Saideep Sahyadri Hospital, a network hospital of Manipal Hospitals, conducted 5,860 free ECG screenings across seven locations in Ahilyanagar as part of its World Heart Day initiative. The 24-hour initiative, titled “24 Hours. One City. One Heart Mission”, was undertaken as a record attempt for “Maximum Cardiac Screening in 24 Hours.”

The screenings were conducted across Saideep Sahyadri Hospital, Agadgaav, Police Headquarters, Trackton/Hotel Akaya at Shendi, Supa MIDC, Nagar MIDC and [7th location], with dedicated teams deployed across the participating locations. The initiative brought together 100 ECG machines and 100 nursing staff, supported by centre heads and a central command team to coordinate the activity.

A total of 5,860 ECG screenings were conducted during the initiative, with people from different sections of the community participating in the screening. Hospital staff also underwent ECG screening as part of the initiative. The activity focused on encouraging people to pay attention to their heart health, undergo timely screening and seek medical advice when required.

The initiative received a Provisional World Record Certificate from the International Book of Honour – England for the record category “Maximum Cardiac Screening in 24 Hours.” The certificate recognises the record attempt as part of the hospital’s “24 Hours. One City. One Heart Mission.”

Speaking about the initiative, Dr Venkatesh Mule, Hospital Director, Saideep Sahyadri Hospital, Ahilyanagar, A network hospital of Manipal Hospitals, said, “Heart health is something that needs attention even when a person feels well. Through this initiative, we wanted to encourage people to come forward for a simple cardiac screening and understand the importance of timely evaluation. Conducting the screenings across different locations allowed us to reach people across the city and surrounding areas. The participation from the community and our teams made this initiative possible, and the provisional recognition is an encouraging acknowledgement of this collective effort.”

Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Deepak SS, CMD, Saideep Sahyadri Hospital, A Network Hospital of Manipal Hospital said, “Heart health is a concern that touches every family, and access to timely screening can play an important role in encouraging people to pay attention to their health. Through this initiative, we wanted to make cardiac screening accessible across different parts of Ahilyanagar and encourage people to take the first step towards understanding their heart health. The screening also helped identify a patient who was experiencing an acute heart attack, allowing him to receive immediate medical attention and treatment. We have also seen several individuals with abnormal ECG findings being referred to the hospital for further evaluation. Eight patients who subsequently underwent coronary angiography were found to have underlying heart disease. These instances highlight why timely screening and appropriate follow-up can be important, even when a person may not initially recognise the seriousness of their condition. The participation of 5,860 individuals and the collective effort of our teams made this initiative possible. The provisional recognition from the International Book of Honour is a meaningful acknowledgement of this effort.”

Dr. Kiran SS, Cardiologist, Saideep Sahyadri Hospital, A Network Hospital of Manipal Hospital said, “An ECG is a simple and widely available cardiac test that can provide important information about the heart’s electrical activity. While it cannot by itself diagnose every heart condition, it can help doctors identify abnormalities that may require further evaluation. Regular health checks become particularly important when there are risk factors or concerns about heart health. Initiatives such as this can help people understand the value of timely screening and seeking medical advice rather than waiting for symptoms to become significant.”

The initiative also aimed to create awareness around the importance of early cardiac evaluation and timely medical consultation. An ECG is a simple and widely used cardiac test that provides information about the heart’s electrical activity. However, the findings need to be assessed by a doctor in the context of an individual’s symptoms and medical history, with further evaluation recommended when required.

The initiative comes as Saideep Sahyadri Hospital strengthens its cardiac care services through its Cardiology Department and Cardiac CT services, further supporting access to cardiac evaluation and care for patients in Ahilyanagar and surrounding areas.

Records of the screenings conducted across the seven locations were maintained as part of the initiative. The programme brought together medical, nursing, administrative and support teams to conduct the screenings across the city over the 24-hour period.
