Prime Minister Narendra Modi pays respects at the Mahatma Gandhi statue by Naresh Kumar Kumawat during the Seychelles Visit

 

In a prestigious moment for world-renowned sculptor Naresh Kumar Kumawat, the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a special tribute to the Mahatma Gandhi statue during the Seychelles visit. The bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi in his signature attire with a stick in his hand has been a significant landmark in the Peace Park, Victoria, Seychelles.

In a central location at Victoria’s Peace Park, the life-sized statue of Mahatma Gandhi stands tall wearing his traditional clothes and holding a walking stick. On June 29, 2026, Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid flowers at its base as a representation of India’s cultural diplomacy and the strong bonds between Seychelles and India during Seychelles’ Golden Jubilee Independence Celebrations.

Reflecting on this monumental day, the artist Naresh Kumar Kumawat expressed his gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister in an X post. In his post, he said, “I’m feeling very deeply humbled and greatly blessed. The Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s visit to the Mahatma Gandhi Ji’s sculpture that I created in Victoria Peace Park, Seychelles is one of the most tremendous honours of my life. Bapu’s message continues to inspire people everywhere and to unite our countries through the everlasting values of peace, justice and dignity”.\
