PosTransfer Powered by UPI Now Available Through Qatar Post Outlets

Doha, August 18: Indian residents and customers in Qatar can now send money directly to UPI-enabled bank accounts in India through Qatar Post outlets, following the launch of the PosTransfer powered by UPI remittance service.

The Qatar-India remittance corridor became operational on August 15, 2026, coinciding with India’s Independence Day. The service has been developed through collaboration among Qatar Post, India Post, the Universal Postal Union’s Interconnection Platform (UPU-IP), and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL).

The initiative brings together the reach of postal networks and India’s digital public infrastructure to offer a convenient channel for cross-border remittances.

On the occasion, H.E. Sandeep Kumar, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of India in Qatar, visited the Qatar Post outlet at LuLu Mall in Doha and interacted with stakeholders. The engagement highlighted the importance of the service in strengthening digital financial connectivity and bilateral cooperation between India and Qatar.

Under the new facility, customers can initiate a remittance at participating Qatar Post outlets by providing the recipient’s UPI ID in India along with the required identification details.

The recipient must first activate the facility for receiving foreign inward remittances through the UPI application being used. Once activated, the remitted funds are credited to the beneficiary’s UPI-enabled bank account.

Transactions can be initiated for amounts ranging from QAR 10 to QAR 4,000, subject to a maximum equivalent of ₹1 lakh per transaction. A flat service fee of QAR 15 per transaction applies.

The service is expected to benefit the large Indian community in Qatar by providing an accessible and trusted channel for sending money to families in India.

By combining the physical accessibility of postal outlets with the digital capabilities of UPI, the initiative is aimed at improving financial inclusion and facilitating seamless cross-border financial connectivity.

The Qatar-India corridor also marks an important step in modernising international postal financial services. The integration of UPU-IP with India’s UPI ecosystem demonstrates how postal networks and digital public infrastructure can be used to deliver interoperable and efficient cross-border financial services.

PosTransfer powered by UPI is an international inward remittance service created by integrating the Universal Postal Union’s Interconnection Platform with India’s UPI ecosystem. It enables participating postal operators to offer a simple and secure mechanism for remitting funds to UPI-enabled bank accounts in India.

India Post is also working with postal operators in other countries to operationalise additional PosTransfer powered by UPI corridors, with the broader objective of strengthening international financial connectivity for the Indian diaspora.
