Nestlé India Advances Climate and Sustainability Action; Reiterates its commitment on World Environment Day

Nestlé House, June 05: This World Environment DayNestlé India is doubling down on its sustainability commitment through focused action across climate, renewable energy, responsible sourcing, and circular economy initiatives.

Kunwar Himmat Singh, Head – Corporate Affairs, Sustainability and CSR, Nestlé India, said: “Our approach to sustainability is focused on creating long-term impact at scale – from reducing emissions in our operations to supporting farmers and advancing circular solutions on the ground. We remain committed to building resilient supply chains and contributing to a more sustainable future through collaborative action across our value chain.”

Reducing Operational Emissions

Nestlé India has achieved a 70% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions per ton of product manufactured compared to 2018, while continuing business growth. The Company has also reduced energy use by 13% and water use by 31% per ton of product manufactured against a 2018 baseline.

All its manufacturing factories now operate on 100% renewable electricity, including Renewable Energy Certificates. Biomass boilers installed at the Moga, Nanjangud, and Sanand factories are further helping increase the use of renewable fuels across operations.

Building Climate-Resilient Supply Chains

Nestlé India continues to work closely with farming communities to strengthen sustainable sourcing and climate resilience. The Company has engaged with nearly 80,000 dairy farmers across India, encouraging sustainable and low-emission farming practices, productivity enhancement, and tree plantation initiatives.

Through the NESCAFÉ Plan, Nestlé India engages with over 5,000 coffee farmers to improve livelihoods, strengthen community resilience, and promote environmental stewardship. The MAGGI Spice Plan continues to advance traceability, quality standards, and regenerative agricultural practices across spice supply chains.

Advancing Circularity Through Biodigesters

To support circular resource management, Nestlé India has installed almost 200 large biodigesters and over 5,800 small biodigesters across Punjab and Haryana. These systems help convert cattle manure into renewable energy and bio-fertilizer, reducing methane emissions and dependence on conventional fuels, while also supporting cleaner cooking solutions for households.
