Bangalore, Sep 23: mPokket, one of India’s digital lending platforms, today announced a significant business milestone, having onboarded more than 6.5 million New-to-Credit customers into the formal financial ecosystem. The achievement comes alongside a sustained ~20% year-on-year growth in NTC customer acquisition over the past three years, with the company now on track to cross USD 5.5 billion in lifetime disbursals during FY26.

The milestone underscores mPokket’s continued expansion across India’s underserved credit landscape, powered by proprietary alternative-data-led underwriting models that enable responsible lending to customers with limited or no formal credit history.

mPokket’s customer base reflects a structural shift in where formal credit demand is emerging. Nearly 79% of all NTC customers onboarded by mPokket were under the age of 25 when they accessed formal credit for the first time. At the same time, 83% of the company’s lifetime NTC portfolio originates from rural and semi-urban India. These trends reinforce the growing role of digital lending platforms in expanding access to formal finance beyond traditionally served customer segments and geographies.

Commenting on the milestone, Gaurav Jalan, Founder & CEO, mPokket, said,

“Crossing 6.5 million first-time borrowers is an important milestone for us because it validates that technology-led underwriting can responsibly expand access to formal credit at scale. Millions of hardworking Indians—including young professionals, gig workers and self-employed individuals—have long remained outside conventional lending systems despite demonstrating strong financial behaviour. Our focus has always been to build underwriting models that recognise this potential responsibly and sustainably.

“As we prepare to cross USD 5.5 billion in lifetime disbursals and continue scaling our platform, we remain focused on building a stronger and more inclusive credit ecosystem. Our ambition is not just to grow our lending business, but to continue creating meaningful first-time credit opportunities for millions more Indians while maintaining disciplined underwriting and long-term portfolio quality,”he further added.

A key driver of mPokket’s growth has been its continued investment in alternative-data-led underwriting capabilities that assess creditworthiness beyond conventional bureau scores. This has enabled the company to responsibly expand lending to underserved segments, specifically self-employed professionals and business owners—customer cohorts that have historically remained outside the formal lending ecosystem despite having stable income streams. In fact earlier this year, the company announced an increase of the ticket size for small business owners for up to INR 2 lacs. This has significantly diversified its customer base while strengthening its position in India’s fast-growing New-to-Credit market.

Looking ahead, mPokket expects to cross USD 5.5 billion in lifetime disbursals during FY26, while targeting annual disbursals exceeding ₹25,000 crore and a loan book of over ₹20,000 crore within the next three years. The company will continue investing in technology, underwriting intelligence and customer acquisition to deepen its presence across India’s expanding New-to-Credit opportunity, while maintaining a strong focus on responsible lending and sustainable portfolio growth.
