Mamagoto at DLF Promenade Steps Into a Time Machine and Lands in 1970s Asia

New Delhi, May 08:  It is 1970. Osaka has just staged a World Expo that crackled with futurism. Hello Kitty is months away from her debut. Hiroshi Suzuki is pressing his jazz masterpiece Cat onto vinyl. Daido Moriyama is prowling Tokyo’s streets with his camera. Across the water in Hong Kong, neon signs are blooming on every corner, Jackie Chan is about to have his first screen moment, and Toyota Crowns are rolling into taxi fleets. The decade is alive, restless, creative, impossibly cool.

That world is now the beating heart of Mamagoto‘s reimagined outpost at DLF Promenade, Vasant Vihar. India’s best-loved pan-Asian dining brand has reopened here with a richly imagined narrative , “Welcome to Then”  an immersive, era-specific tribute to the cultural explosion that reshaped Asia in the 1970s. From the interiors to the menu to the mood on the floor, every element channels the period’s irreverent creative energy: the Osaka Expo’s optimism, Hong Kong’s street-level swagger, Japan’s emerging kawaii sensibility, and the smoky warmth of the jazz kissa. This is a deliberate departure from the brand’s other recent relaunches, Mamagoto at DLF Promenade is conceived as a full dining destination, a place to linger, to soak in the references, and to eat extraordinarily well.

. The design references the graphic boldness of Old Master Q comics and the documentary rawness of Moriyama’s photography. The energy draws from the Osaka Expo’s confidence that the future could be designed. The 1970s was the last decade before Asia‘s cultural output went global, intimate, localised, wildly original and Mamagoto at DLF Promenade channels exactly that quality: flavour-forward, visually provocative, and rooted in the specific rather than the generic. Guests are not observers of this world; they are participants in it.

The new menu carries the culinary signatures of the era’s two most culturally charged cities, Tokyo and Hong Kong, alongside pan-Asian favourites given fresh treatment. Diners can expect the Bangkok Chinatown Vegetarian Dimsum with water chestnuts, beans, carrots and a Tom Kha reduction; Charcoal Prawns with Spicy Bonito Mayo Glaze, prawns and edamame in activated charcoal-infused skin, finished with bonito mayo and tobiko; and the Salmon Aburi Nigiri, vinegared rice topped with flamed salmon slices and salmon roe. From Southeast Asia comes the Kamala Beach  grilled eggplant, chicken and prawns in a chilli lime dressing — and the irresistible Soi 11 5Cs (Crispy Coconut Cream Corn Cakes) with panko crust and chilli jam, alongside Peranakan Heritage Fried Fish Cakes with Thai herbs and spicy dip. Heartier dishes include a Slow-Cooked Pork & Pumpkin Red Curry and the punchy Pad Kra Pao Kai — pounded chicken with fresh red chillies served three ways in heat, with a choice of Thai omelette or fried egg. The K-Pop Porky Bowl, soba noodles with sliced pork belly, braised edamame and enoki mushroom, has already become a word-of-mouth favourite across Mamagoto locations. The meal closes on an unexpected note with a Peanut Butter Mousse that is as indulgent as it sounds.

“The new Mamagoto menu celebrates Asia‘s regional depth. We’ve gone hyper-specific with flavours, techniques, and ingredients while keeping the food approachable and fun. It’s familiar yet unexpected — rooted yet experimental — and aligned with how today’s diners explore Asian cuisine.”

“The DLF Promenade relaunch is part of a wider, intentional evolution for the brand. Mamagoto is simultaneously entering new cities,  including Kanpur, Itanagar, Coimbatore and Indiranagar, Bengaluru, while reimagining its existing restaurants with distinct neighbourhood-specific narratives, moving decisively away from a single uniform identity.” says Vineet Kochhar COO Azure Hospitality Pvt Ltd.

Mamagoto at DLF Promenade is the first expression of this hyper-localised strategy: each restaurant will tell its own story, grounded in a cultural moment or geography from across Asia, while staying true to the playful, flavour-forward DNA that has defined the brand since its 2010 launch at Khan Market.

Speaking about the brands evolution, Co Founder & Director Rahul Khanna shared :

“On January 21st, 2010, we put together a few tables and chairs and opened Mamagoto in Khan Market. Since then, it’s been one unforgettable rollercoaster — fuelled by passion, chaos, gratitude, and people. To our team, suppliers, families, and competitors — thank you for helping us grow every single day. And to you, thank you for giving us a reason to do what we do. Because without you, there would be no buzzing restaurants, no celebrations, reunions, first dates, or golden anniversaries. No feedback to learn from. No reason to evolve.Mamagoto was created for you, and every step of this journey has been because of you.Much more to come. Eat well.”
