New Delhi, Aug 27: India’s two-wheeler market continued its strong growth trajectory in August, with retail sales rising by nearly 20 per cent, reflecting healthy consumer demand and improving sentiment across the automobile sector.
The strong performance indicates that motorcycles and scooters continue to play a major role in India’s personal mobility landscape. Demand remains supported by the need for affordable and convenient transportation across both urban and smaller markets.
The August growth also comes at a significant time for the industry as manufacturers and dealers prepare for the festive season. Traditionally, the period brings increased vehicle purchases, making the latest retail trend an encouraging sign for the sector.
The two-wheeler segment has already shown strong momentum in recent months. Retail volumes rose 28.25 per cent year-on-year in July, reaching more than 18.18 lakh units, indicating that consumer demand has remained resilient.
Improving affordability, financing conditions, new product launches and changing consumer preferences are supporting the market. Electric two-wheelers are also gradually becoming a more important part of the industry as consumers look for newer and more cost-efficient mobility options.
The sustained growth is positive for manufacturers, dealerships and businesses across the wider automotive supply chain. Stronger retail activity can also support production, financing, insurance and after-sales services linked to two-wheelers.
With demand remaining firm and the festive season approaching, the industry is expected to remain optimistic about sales in the coming months. The near-20 per cent August growth provides an encouraging indication that India’s two-wheeler market is maintaining its recovery and expansion momentum.
