New Delhi, Sep 7: Germany is continuing to attract Indian travellers, with visitor demand remaining steady during the first half of 2026 despite global economic uncertainty and changing travel conditions. The consistent flow of Indian tourists is supporting activity across hotels, airlines, restaurants, local transport, retail and travel services.

Germany recorded 36.4 million international overnight stays between January and June 2026, up 0.5 per cent from the same period last year. International overnight stays rose 1.6 per cent in June alone, while hotel occupancy improved by 1.2 percentage points to 65.5 per cent. Indian visitor nights also remained stable, rising 0.1 per cent year-on-year.

Indian travellers are becoming an increasingly important part of Germany’s international tourism market. The country’s major cities, particularly Munich, Berlin and Frankfurt, continue to attract a large share of Indian visitors. Travel demand is being supported by holidays, business trips, shopping, cultural experiences and multi-city European itineraries.

The tourism impact extends well beyond hotels. Every international visitor contributes to several parts of the local economy, including airlines, airports, trains, taxis, restaurants, retail outlets, museums, entertainment venues and tour operators. This creates a wider chain of business activity and employment around tourism.

Germany’s efficient public transport system and central location in Europe also make it attractive to Indian travellers looking to combine several destinations in a single trip. Its mix of historic cities, cultural attractions, natural landscapes, food and shopping gives visitors a broad range of experiences.

The Indian market also has strong long-term potential. Around 95 per cent of Indian travellers visiting Germany are below the age of 55, while the average traveller is about 38 years old. This points to a relatively young and experience-focused market that could continue to generate demand in the years ahead.

For the Indian travel industry, rising interest in Germany creates opportunities for tour operators, travel agents, online booking platforms, airlines and hospitality companies. As more Indians travel overseas, demand for holiday packages, international flights, visas, travel insurance and other travel-related services can also increase.

The trend also strengthens business and people-to-people links between India and Germany. Business travellers, students and corporate visitors add another layer to tourism demand, while leisure travellers contribute directly to local spending on accommodation, food, transport and shopping.

Germany’s tourism performance also reflects the resilience of international travel. The latest industry outlook is more positive, with a larger share of travel-sector professionals expecting business conditions to improve in the coming months.

For Germany, sustained demand from India can provide support to the hospitality, aviation, retail and tourism sectors. For Indian travel businesses, it opens another growing international market and creates opportunities to develop specialised packages around culture, food, nature, luxury travel and multi-destination holidays.

With Indian travellers increasingly looking for experiences rather than simple sightseeing, Germany is well placed to benefit from this shift. Continued growth in Indian visitor numbers could give a further push to tourism businesses while strengthening commercial and cultural connections between the two countries.
