New Delhi, Sep 11: New Delhi is ready to host leaders from across the BRICS grouping as India prepares for the two-day BRICS Summit on September 12 and 13, bringing major emerging economies together at a time of significant changes in the global economic and geopolitical landscape.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday welcomed the visiting leaders and said the summit would provide an important platform for countries to strengthen their relationships, expand cooperation and work towards shared prosperity.
Welcoming the global leaders, Shah said India was proud to host the summit and expressed confidence that closer cooperation among BRICS countries could contribute to a brighter and more prosperous future.
The summit comes at an important moment for the global economy, with countries facing challenges ranging from geopolitical tensions and disrupted trade routes to energy security, supply-chain pressures and changing patterns of global growth.
For India, hosting the summit is also an opportunity to showcase its growing role in global affairs and strengthen economic and strategic engagement with some of the world’s major emerging economies.
BRICS has expanded significantly in recent years and now includes Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Together, the grouping represents nearly half of the world’s population and a substantial share of global economic activity and trade.
India assumed the BRICS chairship on January 1, 2026. The country’s chairship is built around the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, reflecting an emphasis on stronger economic partnerships, innovation and sustainable development.
The discussions are expected to focus on areas that directly affect the global economy, including trade, investment, energy and food security, technology, healthcare, disaster resilience and critical supply chains.
The summit could also open the door to greater cooperation for businesses and entrepreneurs across member countries. Proposals being discussed include a BRICS startup innovation fund, an incubator network and a framework for improving logistics and supply-chain cooperation.
Such initiatives could create new opportunities for startups, manufacturers, exporters, technology companies and small businesses by improving access to international markets, investment and business networks.
The expanded BRICS grouping also gives India an opportunity to push for practical cooperation rather than limiting discussions to broad political commitments. Stronger links in payments, logistics, technology and supply chains could help businesses manage global disruptions and explore new markets.
At the same time, the summit is taking place against a backdrop of serious geopolitical differences among member countries, making consensus an important challenge. The ability of the expanded grouping to find common ground on major global issues will be closely watched.
