Sitharaman held discussions with senior officials of the Department of Economic Affairs to take stock of the progress made so far and ensure that key issues are ready for the upcoming high-level meeting. The Mumbai gathering will also set the stage for the BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi later this month.

The Finance Track is being guided by India’s theme of building resilience, encouraging innovation, strengthening cooperation and promoting sustainability. The discussions are aimed at deepening financial cooperation among member economies while addressing common challenges facing emerging markets.

A key focus is expected to be on strengthening development finance and attracting greater private investment. The Jaipur meeting held last month had highlighted the need for BRICS economies to find more effective ways to mobilise private capital and support long-term development.

For businesses, stronger financial cooperation within BRICS could open opportunities for investment, infrastructure financing and cross-border partnerships. Greater coordination among member economies could also help create a more supportive environment for trade and investment.

The Mumbai meeting will be an important step ahead of the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit, scheduled in New Delhi on September 12-13. With India leading the BRICS agenda this year, the Finance Track is expected to play a key role in shaping the bloc’s approach to economic growth, investment and financial cooperation.
