Aug 25: The H.P. Ghosh Memorial Foundation today marked the foundation stone laying of H.P. Ghosh Medical College, Lalchari, Ambassa, Dhalai, Tripura, as a step towards strengthening the nation-building process, where the healthcare and education sector played a vital role. The landmark project is one of the biggest social development projects by the Foundation and is expected to change the landscape of access to quality healthcare and medical education not just in Tripura but also in the Northeast. The foundation stone was laid by Prof (Dr) Manik Saha, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura who was the Chief Guest of the occasion, along with the project proponent Shri Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Founder & Chairman of Bandhan Group, senior government officers, medical professionals, academicians and the community. 

The establishment of the H.P. Ghosh Medical College in Dhalai, an aspirational district, marks a transformative chapter in decentralized healthcare delivery, bringing world-class medical education, specialized healthcare services and employment opportunities to the remote and underserved regions of the state. The college will begin with an intake of 100 MBBS students from the next academic year and will eventually be expanded to include post graduate medical programmes, College of Nursing and Paramedical Sciences. The institution, once established, will be a major boost to the healthcare system in Tripura and offer an opportunity to young healthcare aspirants from all over the Northeast. 

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister of Tripura, Prof (Dr.) Manik Saha lauded the effort and thanked the H.P. Ghosh Memorial Foundation for its efforts to enhance the health-care infrastructure of the state. He further emphasized that the new medical college aligns with the government’s relentless pursuit of strengthening medical infrastructure outside urban centres. He noted that taking tertiary healthcare closer to rural and tribal populations is a fulfilment of a long-standing dream for the region, which will drastically reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for critical medical interventions. 

The project is one among several others within the Foundation‘s agenda of inclusive growth and the projects that can improve the standard of living, offer opportunities and contribute to a robust social infrastructure. 

Speaking at the occasion, Shri Chandra Shekhar GhoshFounder & Chairman of Bandhan Group said, “True economic progress is meaningless without accessible health and education for the last person in the line. The H.P. Ghosh Medical College is envisioned not merely as an academic structure, but it will be a temple of healing and knowledge. It will dedicatedly provide a sustainable social equity and pathways to medical careers and quality care. education of young doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals. This Medical College is a testimony of our belief that healthcare and education are the most powerful tools for social change and that the Foundation is committed to investing in people, building communities and shaping a healthier future of Tripura and the Northeast.” 

The medical college is conceived as a force for social transformation and is named after late Shri. H.P. Ghosh, beloved father of Shri Chandra Shekhar Ghoshwho was an inspiration of values of compassion, service and social responsibility, which continue to shape the work of the FoundationH.P. Ghosh Medical College will be a hub for healthcareeducation and research with a focus on developing skills and fostering economic growth in the region. The Foundation‘s goal with this project is to build a model for social impact, one that brings together healthcareeducation and empowerment in a single platform and in a sustainable way.
