From AI to Edible Art: KCCA Students Create a Culinary Island

Panaji, August 2026: Students and faculty of the Verna-based Kamaxi College of Culinary Arts (KCCA) transformed an AI-generated tropical island model into an entirely edible culinary island, using food as both their medium and their canvas.

Working collaboratively, the team recreated the landscape using an imaginative mix of ingredients: dill and basil leaves for the palm trees, roasted vegetables, potatoes, broccoli and lettuce for the landscape, biscuits and bread for the structures, and meatballs, white sauce and mushrooms for the house. A cucumber volcano, jelly water, an edible-fruit dolphin and zucchini boats filled with Greek salad brought the island to life, while a pineapple boat filled with fruit salad, watermelon and paneer added another playful element to the edible seascape.

Speaking about the challenge, faculty Chef Playton said, “The challenge brought together culinary creativity, precision and teamwork, requiring students and faculty to look at familiar ingredients in unconventional ways.” Chef Ashley added, “  “What made the experience exciting was seeing the students translate an AI-generated visual into something tangible and edible, while making their own creative decisions along the way.”

At KCCA, learning extends beyond recipes and techniques, experiences like this encourage students to experiment with food as a medium for storytelling, design and creative expression, while developing the collaborative and problem-solving skills essential to the culinary profession
