A digital-first film built around Anu Malik’s reality TV catchphrase gives it new meaning, using acidity relief as the answer to a line audiences already know by heart.
Aug 07: Dabur Pudin Hara has launched ‘Aag Bujha Di’, a digital-first campaign built around musician and reality TV personality Anu Malik. The campaign reworks Malik’s iconic catchphrase, “Aag laga di, aag laga di,” giving it a new context around acidity and heartburn, before revealing Dabur Pudin Hara as the solution.
The film opens by withholding the brand association, letting Malik’s own catchphrase play out in a new context before Pudin Hara is revealed as the payoff, turning “jalan” into “thandak.” From there, it moves into Malik performing a jingle built around that same reveal, giving the audience something to hum well after the twist has landed. Curiosity and recall are built into a single film rather than split across separate pieces of content.
The strategy leans on a moment already lodged in pop culture rather than building a new one from scratch, using curiosity and a familiar catchphrase to get people talking before the brand is even in the picture.
Sriram Padmanabhan, Director – Marketing, Healthcare at Dabur, said, “Pudin Hara has always been the one people reach for once a meal is done and the acidity sets in, the kind of cooling relief that has earned trust across generations. What this campaign does is give people a reason to remember it in that exact moment. Anu Malik’s line does that for us, it’s familiar, it’s fun, and it still brings the conversation straight back to the brand.”
Puru Agarwal, Creative Director at Schbang, added, “Anu Malik didn’t need a new line written for him, he already owns one. ‘Aag laga di’ has stayed in people’s heads for years without a brand anywhere near it. Our job was just to find the most honest, everyday place that line could live in, and acidity turned out to be exactly that. Once we saw it, the whole campaign followed from there.”
The campaign is rolling out digitally, across YouTube, Instagram and other social platforms, with the teaser preceding the jingle reveal by design.
