CM Prem Singh Tamang Distributes Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana Benefits to 1,000 Aamas in Rhenock

New Delhi, October 06th: Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang on Saturday (October 03) extended the benefits of the Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana to 1,000 Aamas of Rhenock Constituency, reaffirming the State Government’s commitment to the economic empowerment, dignity and welfare of women and mothers across Sikkim.

Addressing the gathering of Aamas, sisters, distinguished guests and the people of Rhenock, the Chief Minister stated that the initiative is aimed at providing mothers with greater economic strength, confidence and the ability to make independent decisions.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Tamang said that the inspiration behind several women- and mother-centric initiatives of his Government comes from the values of love, compassion, sacrifice and strength he learnt from his own mother.

He emphasised that the Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana is not merely a financial assistance programme, but an initiative intended to promote financial independence among Aamas. The assistance can support children’s education, household requirements, small enterprises, farming, livestock and other livelihood activities according to individual needs and choices.

Highlighting the Government’s broader approach towards women’s empowerment, he referred to initiatives including the Aama Samman Puraskar, which recognises the contributions of deserving Aamas, and the Pragatisheel Aama Puraskar, which acknowledges inspiring examples of how the assistance provided under the scheme is being utilised.

He further outlined various women- and child-centric initiatives undertaken by the State Government, including the Aama Sahayog Yojana, Vatsalya Yojana, Bahini Yojana, Shishu Samriddhi Yojana, maternity benefits, reservation for women in government services, healthcare initiatives and measures aimed at safeguarding women’s dignity and safety.

The Chief Minister stated that these initiatives form part of the Government’s broader commitment to making the lives of Sikkim’s mothers, daughters and sisters safer, more respected and economically independent.

Recalling the support and blessings he has received from the mothers and sisters of Sikkim, Chief Minister Tamang expressed that their love and blessings have been a source of strength throughout his public life. He said that this bond could not be repaid through money, but could only be honoured through dedicated service to the people.

Reiterating his commitment to the welfare and empowerment of women, he assured that efforts towards safeguarding the dignity, economic independence and welfare of Sikkim’s Aamas and daughters would continue with full dedication.

Emphasising the wider social impact of women’s empowerment, the Chief Minister said that when Aamas are economically and socially empowered, families become stronger, which in turn strengthens society and contributes to a stronger Sikkim.

He said that the Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana goes beyond the distribution of financial assistance, describing the cheques as a means of placing greater strength, confidence and decision-making power in the hands of Aamas.

The Chief Minister reiterated that an empowered Aama leads to an empowered family and society, and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to fulfilling its promise towards every Aama of Sikkim.

On Saturday, 1,000 cheques were distributed by MLAs to eligible Aamas in their respective constituencies under the Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana, taking the total number of cheques distributed across the State to 32,000.

About the Scheme & Aama Samman Diwas: The Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana is a women-centric initiative of the Government of Sikkim aimed at strengthening the financial independence and economic empowerment of Aamas across the State. Under the scheme, eligible Aamas receive direct financial assistance, which can be utilised according to their individual needs, including supporting children’s education, meeting household expenses, pursuing livelihood activities, farming, livestock rearing or starting small enterprises.

The scheme seeks to provide Aamas with greater financial security, confidence and decision-making capacity, while recognising their vital contribution to their families and communities. As of the 2026 distribution, each eligible beneficiary under the Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana receives ₹40,000 annually, paid in two instalments of ₹20,000 each.

At the 2nd Aama Samman Diwas earlier on August 10, 2026, mothers of Sikkim were honoured through several awards and recognition initiatives:

1.    Aama Samman Puraskar: One deserving Aama from each of Sikkim’s 32 Assembly constituencies was honoured for her dedication, resilience, hard work, and contribution to her family and community. Each awardee received ₹51,000. Importantly, these recipients were selected from among mothers who are not beneficiaries of the Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana, allowing other deserving mothers to be recognised as well.

2.    Pragatisheel Aama Puraskar: Three beneficiaries of the Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana were recognised for making exemplary and productive use of the financial assistance to create livelihood opportunities. The first, second and third prize winners received ₹5 lakh, ₹3 lakh and ₹2 lakh, respectively.

3.    Best Aama Account Holders: The State Bank of Sikkim also felicitated 18 mothers, three from each of the six districts, for effective management of their Aama Savings Accounts and financial discipline.

Aama Samman Diwas is not simply about distributing financial assistance—it is also a platform to publicly recognise and reward mothers for their lifelong contribution, resilience, financial responsibility, and efforts towards improving their families and communities.
